Yep, so close from home! How did you find it?
Next time ride further west from you start, take the second street to the left and then the first road on your right, it looks like a private road entrance. And go for it to the top, it will be shorter but a good stinger. And the view is fantastic.

The President's Day plan: Zone3 ride Canada/92->OLH & 84 X 3.

Reality: Was really able to enjoy the beauty & solitude of OLH at a 'easier than easy' pace. No snow on Skyline, as matter of fact it was dry. Only did two repeats though as it started to rain the second time down 84 and all of a sudden it was a Zone5 ride. In the rain those snakebites are exciting when it just rains they are downright scary.

Drove down to visit dad on Thursday, and did Camino Real Double on Saturday. That was epic ... cold, wet, and made a few wrong turns here and there, so I actually ended up with more of a true double century than the rest. I made an extra detour through Camp Pendleton before realizing I should actually be on the freeway, I-5 ... Anyhow, I got in 200 miles and 8500 feet of climbing ... and I was DFL ... the Lanterne Rouge.

Milliron - mind if I use that first picture of yours on my blog? It would be awesome because the other contributors live in Colorado and they'd get a kick out of it.

I wish I did a Redwood ride today - debate tournaments take far too much time.

50 easy miles in my backyard. Woodward Reservoir/Sonora Rd. Ran into many cyclists that were doing the "Pedaling Paths to Independence" ride out of Linden.

Yeah, guess it's not too bad I have to work this morning. Looks like it will be warm by noon.

Probably just going to do laps in the sun on Canada!

Make sure to protect your toes. Even with shoe covers I had numbed feet during my ride yesterday morning. My right foot toe tips started to hurt in the afternoon so much so I had trouble sleeping. They still hurt this morning but seem to be getting better.
I need foot warmers.

Spent Sat climbing up Mitchell Canyon to Diablo Summit. Enjoyed sahweet single track on the way down. Good times. Today I chased my friend Doug around the Bay Area: 104 miles w/ over 5400 footies. Livermore-Palmares-Pinehurst-PigFarm-Livermore.

Met up with BlastRadius, mellum76, pelikan and Ygduf for the PV Sunday ride. Nice route, the group seemed fairly mellow today. To add some more miles I joined Ygduf for a trip back to Edgewood, and we climbed Crestview a couple of times - nice little hill, I like how it shows up on the ride profile

Was cruising back and forth on Canada when I ran into some folks I knew. They dragged me up 92, 35 and down 84. Nice loop once you get past the traffic going up 92.

A 75 mile ride with Midland. A lot of short punch climbs like Pig Farm, The Bears, Happy Valley, Martino, plus big rollers on Lake Herman Road and the sneaky hard climb up Columbus Parkway. Nearly 6000 feet of climbing.

Today was a very hard ride, a series of short but intense climbs.
Different than a long sustained climb like Diablo or Hamilton.
It took a lot out of me, and I went after today's shorter climbs very hard.
Kind of like sprints. I hope it built up some wind since it tore me up.

I like to add a plastic bag between the shoe cover and my shoe. It adds a nice barrier for the wind and any incoming water. I have never had problems with sweating with that combo....and from my experience, more than one pair of socks does not help. My toes have low circulation and even with narrow feet two pairs of socks will slow blood circulation. As for gloves, a quality shell and some thin latex kitchen gloves work well.
On the same thought of heat (or lack) I think this article might help some. I try to dress warmly through the winter season.

Spent the last 4 days in Austin, TX, attending the NAHBS and generally screwing around. Did a very nice 25 mile ride in and around the city with BF members from around the country, courtesy of local BF members that hosted the ride. Got to see Lance's crib, as well as his boutique bike shop - Mellow Johnny's. The Steve Miller Band was in town, opening the new Austin City Limits venue. Blues bands all over the place - no cover, $1 well drinks.

Austin frickin' rocks.

Got out on Sunday for a climb up to Junction on Diablo, then over the other side. Then took my "cross-cut" home through Shell Ridge, too muddy for slicks and my SPD-SL's didn't care for it either. Intended to go out and over Morgan but I got too late a start.

hooligancyclist was just responding to a comment I previously posted. Thank you hooligancyclist I will try the plastic bag trick next time.

Anyway, my Saturday plans to go up Diablo had to be scratched for lack of time. Instead I opted for a shorter 33 miles route with lots of ups and downs. It was definitely on the cool, actually freezing, side. Ponds on the side of the road at Inspiration Point on Wildcat had ice on them, quite unusual in California. The air was so crisp and clear that the Farallon Islands were very clearly visible from Grizzly Peak, a rare site with the horizon well defined over the Pacific, not a hint of haze or fog, lovely.

My route ups included Acalanes, Rheem, Pinehurst, Grizzly Peak, Papa Bear, Happy Valley, and Los Arabis for a total of 33 miles and 4,000'. I wasn't fast especially on the descents. Why make things colder than they were? I felt pretty good on the climbs though with more time out of the saddle than usual.

I do that same route...But on a motorcycle

Where did I ride this weekend? I rode a few miles around my neighborhood, getting used to fixed gear (and cycling in general). Once I get the hang of this ill be switching to free

Got in a nice 40 miler from Pinole out over the bridges to Benicia and back through Franklin Canyon/Cummings. With an 11:00 start, the weather was perfect. I want to thank the guy ahead of me on Franklin for wearing out the Ausie cattle dogs.
