Don't mince words
Hi, I'm Johnna in the Bay Area. My kids have been serially home sick from school this week, so I found BF while stuck at home unable to go for a ride.
I bought an entry level road bike last month, to replace my hybrid stolen from the high school bike lot. I had been looking for a cruiser, or something I could take into the dirt trails, but the road bike was so fun to ride, felt like it was made to my size, it changed all my plans. I'm suddenly riding more than I ever had in my life and really having a good time.

Hello all. My name is Ben and I'm in Oakley. Just picked up my first road bike, GT Series 3. Coming from the bmx/dirt jumping end of riding but loving the road now! Already looking at upgrades for the ride. Just thought I'd come in and say "Hi"

Hi everyone, My name is Brian, I live in Fresno. Hi there to the other Brian who also lives in Fresno! I'm 53 and ride with my son who is 19. We are training for our first century, The Cool Breeze, in August. We got our bikes about 2 years ago and rode for my son's bicycling merit badge that was a fifty miler. I laid the bike up for a while until the opportunity to train for a century came up. That was six weeks ago. I'm now riding about 90 miles a week and will be increasing that.
My wife, Tammie, and I host the Clan MacLeod tent at 8 Scottish events in Central and Southern CA every year. Mostly Tammie and my daughter this year since my son and I are riding.
I was born in Reno, NV and grew up in Sacto. and am far more familiar with NorCal than SoCal.
We are riding KHS Flite 300 bikes.

Hey - Robert here.
Live in SF, work in SF, so easy 3 mile commute on my Electra Amsterdam.
Roadie at the weekends, and the occasional after work ride, which should be more common now as it's brighter.
Just upgraded from a 2002 Colnago Ovalmaster to a 2010 Colnago CX-1 - quite the difference in performance between the rides.
I typically on a Saturday and/or Sunday do Paradise Loop from my place, but want to expand some more - Only ever done the Tam ride once.

It has been outside now But it's so tough to take it out, as it's a beauty!
and the CX-1 is winning races, and King of the Mountain's all over!!
Got some new Tyres to put on it tonight as well, as the yellow wasn't working

Just getting back to it, including reading BF again.
Oh yes, my name is Reed and, although I live in SF, I ride my Lemond Alpe d'Huez from Sneath over to Canada Rd and beyond. Was riding a lot until about 8 months ago and fell out of the habit while trying to get a new business up and running. Just took a couple of rides this week and the old love is back.
One thing is a little different though - I'd like to ride with other people at some point. Cycling has been an almost exclusively private affair for me, but I find myself looking for some company now. My wife would prefer it were another guy (!), but I'd be happy with anyone who cared to show up for a ride once in awhile.
Mornings are best for me, generally, although I can adjust my schedule most days. I like to get out early and have that great post-ride feeling inspire my day.
I'll be looking out for any BF rides as well.
Cheers all!

I got into road cycling while living in Munich, Germany. Bought my first pair of Spandex and a sweet jersey (Sierra Nevada Brewing, of all things, in the beer capital of the world! At least it was cheap).
My first road bike was a Felt F60. Best use of student loan money ever. Rode a lot, nothing structured, just a lot.
Did AIDS/Lifecycle in 2009, as a motivator to get back on the bike after a couple years off. Did AIDS/Lifecycle again in 2010, and also started racing. Finished my first Death Ride last weekend.
Earlier this year I upgraded and replaced all my entry-level gear. Went for the PowerTap, too. Here's my baby, when she was brand new.

Shawn here from Fresno. I was in the Bay area till last year when my wife transfered to FSU... So now I'm STILL stuck in CA AND in the heat... Oh well. I'm mostly into touring. While I haven't done any "real" tours I ride long and slow with all my gear, done it all my life haha... Now I'm actually learning how to do it for real as my wife and I are going to Hawaii and touring one of the islands, no clue yet what one We both ride Trek's, mine is a 7100 and hers is a 7300. Nothing great but we like them so far
When it cools down I plan on riding up to my folks place above Raymond, an hour by car so I'm planning on a good portion of the day getting there, plus the up hills may be a bugger
Well till next post, I'll be around

Hey guys:
New to the forum. I am a roadie. We ride on weekends, Tuesdays and Thursdays (9:30 am) lvg from the GG Bridge so if anyone wants to ride on weekdays, let me know. We r riding tomorrow starting at 9:30 am. Our weekday rides are typically 30-40 miles and weekend rides can be between 50-80 miles. We usually go North but we also ride in the south bay from time to time. Last weekend we did a ride from San Bruno (San Andreas Trail-Sawyer Camp Trail) along Crystal Springs to Woodside, up OLH, and screamed down Skyline to 92 and Canada going 50 mph (what a blast!) ~60 miles round trip with a fair bit of climbing.
I have been riding 6 months. Pace moderate.
Rides planned:
Levi Leipheimer Gran Fondo (65 miles) - october
Tour De Tahoe - Bike Blue (72 miles) - september
Goal is to do a century within 12 months so I can do the Marin Century and Audi Best Buddies Challenge.
My bike is a Trek Madone - Blue/White.

Hey Paul, in the NorCal section there's a pay it forward thread, but that's just for free stuff. If you go to the top level of bikeforums though, you'll see a for sale forum, anyone can browse but you need a membership to post anything there. You can still PM sellers though. I think there's also a sub forum of the Road forum that does a similar job.

Hey everyone, I'm James. I live in Lafayette, and I bought my first road bike last summer when I went off to college, and realized that I really enjoy not only riding but tinkering as well. I recently upgraded to a Trek 1.5, and am looking to join the cycling team up at Davis in the fall and start racing. I'll be here for the next month or so, and am looking for any good group rides around here so I can get miles under my belt. I am also currently recruiting for the position of "Rider much faster than me who will kick my ass and force me to get better," so if flying ahead of a 19y/o is your cup of tea, give me a ring!
