Getting back on track after sickness bug for two weeks
I feel terrible for not working out for a period of two to three weeks, missed almost the whole September month without riding the bike.
The change in weather here in North California is driving me crazy; 40 in the morning, 75 during the day then windy and down in the 40s in the evening.
My body wants to workout and jump on the bike but I could not go beyond around the block as I had a very bad chronic cough with high fever.
I would get well for brief moments, maybe a day and then relapse so I decided no workout at all. Yesterday did only a light jog and its incredible how much I went back on my physical condition, its almost like starting all over.
It gets me kind of mad because I had a good cross-training routing of jogging, cycling and weights.

Had the same problem over here, I went two weeks without biking... finally got back out there on Saturday. I think it comes back pretty fast after a two or three week layoff. Much more than that and the dropoff in fitness gets pretty big. Get out there and do some easy miles, keep your HR down and rebuild the aerobic base that you had before.

I feel your pain. I haven't ridden in over 3 weeks now (since the Auburn Century) due to my bike being in the shop getting the left crank replaced. It's a known defect with the Cannondale/FSA carbon cranks and it's taking forever to get the replacement part in

I finally went today and did an easy 35 mile ride on the hills of Petaluma (I love those routes besides the now and then cow smell).
It was not that bad after an almost 3 week out of the saddle, definitely this sport is for me. I took it easy as I was slow on my reflexes and getting use to the shoes one more time. The bike felt strange on the first few miles but by the end I felt very confident. I got to take it easy and do like you say on the aerobic deal, many times felt the urge to just blast thru the hills to compensate for lost time which I knew thats not the case and just took it easy and enjoyed every minute of the ride.
After that went to performancebike and bought some winter cycling boots, ear covers, etc. Luckily I may have packed a pound or two but I did lose plenty on stamina, coordination and riding reflexes.
