Tour of the Unknown Coast: Early roll call...

Yeah, we've still got a couple months, but registration's long open. Anyone making the trip to true nor-cal?
I rode the 100k last year and am hitting the century (along with several others) this year. I've never done a ride that touches this much climbing, but climbing's my thing, so I'm looking forward to the challenge...

I'll be there - I've heard great things about this ride and am really looking forward to it.

I'm on the fence, I rode last year and really enjoyed it, but I also suffered pretty hard on the back 30 miles. It's a wonderful ride and reasonably well supported the year I went, but the bulk of the climbing and winds are in the back third of the ride. It's a great ride and a wonderful challenge if you're up to it.

It's definitely the last 30 that I'm training to prepare for. I drove down to Petrolia a couple weeks ago to scope the last 1/3 of the route and it's unreal in every way. A+++ for scenery, but just driving the road made me tired!! The wall must be around a 20% grade, I'd imagine, and the fact that it comes at around mile 75 makes it all the more daunting. I'm thinking about swapping out my 25t cassette for a 27 before the ride. I've got a 50/34 on the front, but I think an extra 2 teeth on the rear could bail me out with 20 miles to go.

I've often wondered why they don't reverse the direction of TUC, getting the most difficult 30 miles out of the way first and eliminating the headwind...

We'll be up there in July on a tour down the coast. I'm sure it will be off the hook!

Because The Wall would become The Freefall, followed by a huge tailwind for a couple miles.

Hey, where's that Bostic guy?...this ride's right up his alley...

I did it last year and I probably won't do it again this year. The roads really suck out there. Also its like a 5 hour drive to get there. Its good training for the Death Ride.

roads suck

The roads suck at Roubaix too...

Traffic is awful, people aren't nice at all, there is no friendly competition at the front, and you will feel no, repeat no, sense of accomplishment at the finish. Oh, and the beer at the five local brewbubs in no good at all.
