I have decided I will be on my road bike not the bent. I remember those roads from the Delta Century etc and they are a bit rough for 16" wheels. Also getting on and off the ferries would be a pain with my 1" ground clearance.

Do we need to bring money for the ferries? Haven't crossed them before, but I do know areas of the delta from work...

Incidentally, I spent most of my ride home from Oregon yesterday listening to Rush...

Unlike Washington our delta ferries are FREE The journey across takes approx. 90 seconds. The only thing we need to keep in mind is they take lunch around noon for 1/2 hour or so...
As for the bents. The roads we're taking are pretty quality compared to some parts of the delta. The ferry landings on both sides are pretty steep going up and down but the ramps onto the ferry are pretty smooth (wet and slick too, so us 700x23-types need to take caution btw) It's a short walk up/down if need be. I wouldn't let it deter you from bringing em'.

If you're that desperate, you're welcome to drive up tonight and stay here for the night. I have a futon you can sleep on, blankets and pillows too! I think I'm only 30 minutes drive from the ride start.

Well, that's a new one. I'm home first!
Despite getting about four hours of sleep last night, missing breakfast, and having ridden nothing but my commute in several weeks, I had a good time. Thanks in no small part to my support crew of friendly providers of slipstreams and other patient people. Oh, and the excellent recovery stop at the end!
Total distance (for me): 71.75 miles
Average speed: 14.56 MPH (Not bad for me. Those locomotives really have some pull!)
Top speed: 31.21 MPH (What?!)
Climbing: The only elevations changes were levees and ferries, so, uhh, 30 feet or so.

It was a very fun ride! Great to meet some new folks, and always fun to draft for 54 miles.

What a blast. I had minor computer issues, so I'm not really sure of the total time or distance.
The Garmin says the first part was 27.9 miles, 153 feet of "climbing" and that's about right. The return leg I'm not so sure. But I don't think we went 71 miles total. Check that calibration!
I am sure, however, that the root beer at the end was a delightful and thing.
Pete and I stopped at Boggle on the way back and bought fine vino for our sweethearts, so we are heroes, no matter what the distance turns out to be.

It was a tough ride for me, but Lisa seemed to be quite comfortable with the speed and terrain. Maybe it was my preconception as a single rider that did me in.
Anyway, thanks go to Team M&M (Mike and Malinda) for their outstanding job as hosts. We are definitely present the next time they want to do a tandem rally.
Something we saw on I5 on the way up to Clarksburg. It's a Bombardier Can-Am Spyder.
The flatness of it all ...
It's a conspiracy!!!
