Wed Nov 24 weather forecast

Wunderground says it'll be 29 degree here for my early morning bike commute. I can't remember it being that cold one last winter. Heck, it almost never gets under 40, and when it does I think that's pretty darn cold. This is, after all, California and the Bay Area.

Anyone else plan to venture out pre-dawn, or in the cold?

It's only supposed to get down into the mid-30s down thisaway, but even so, I'm going to be comforted by a comforter. I'm not driving up to Sacramento for Thanksgiving festivities until the afternoon (no way I'm driving up on Thursday!).

Stay warm out there!

Umm it dropped below 0 last winter also. I think coldest it got was -6C with black ice for extra fun.

Zero? Where? I'm in Antioch, the far reaches of the Bay Area, on the edge of the Delta. It gets painfully hot here in the summer, but usually the winters are pretty darn mild. If it really is 29 (and my bet is it won't be) it will be the coldest I've ever ridden in.

I rode to work in 25-26ish (F) last year. Ski goggles, ftw.

Only dropped to 2C, wasn't too bad. I didn't loose complete feeling in my fingers.

I had the bike all ready, but I just couldn't drag myself out of a cozy bed. It was 34F/1C during the commute, and it wasn't too bad except for my ears. I really need to find my skull cap for the T-giving ride.

Ron, is that a skin tight face mask, or did you undergo a lower face transplant from a Jim Henson creation for the occasion?

It was nippy on the start of the commute, but half way through, it was pretty toasty. But then again, I had 4 layers, leg warmers, boots, etc ... 35 F at the start of the commute at 6 am. 48 F on the ride home. Not bad, as long as you layer up!

Wow, all of the sudden I feel like a real pu$$y.
I stayed home today and kept an eye on weather.com through most of the day. Decided to go for my daily run at 2pm ( 2-3:30) because the temperature would be the highest (49- 50 degrees), and let me tell you I was freezing my ass off- i was never really under sunlight for long enough to warm up.

Maybe it is because i don't have the proper gear, but as a brand new cyclist - who happens to be originally from tropical weather- i don't know if i will be able to take temperatures in the mid 40s or lower. =(

As of right now, I'm wearing a baselayer, and a capo modena long sleeve jersey (worst purchase ever, I wish i could return it to the local LBS. This is the last time i get talk into buying something other than what i went looking for.) and bontrager bibs.

I need to get knee warmers, arm warmers, and balls to withstand the temperatures and wind ASAP.

Sorry about the rant.

I rode in the afternoon from 3 to 5. Sure a bit warmer than a morning commute but still quite nippy especially at the end of the ride. I was well clothed though except for the feet. The winter socks were not enough I couldn't feel my toes when I came back home. Next time I will take the shoe covers.
I actually enjoy riding in these conditions.

Rode to Rancho San Antonio at 7:30am for a morning run. There was some ice growing on top of puddles. The ride to work was noticeably warmer. I used to ride and run below 0F temperatures when I lived in Minnesota, but have gotten soft after a few years of temperate weather. The good thing is that I still have some of the cold weather gear for days like today.

I didn't get started until 8:15 or so (baby, bike maintenance), so it was a little warmer, but jersey and shorts as usual, but no cycling sandals this time.

I've always figured it is better to start out cold and warm up as you go (only takes me a little bit) than to start out warm and overheat.

I rode around 4 pm. It was in the low 40s and my feet felt kind of numb after an hour. I've got to remember to put on the shoe covers. When I got home I went on the Performance site and order some PI bib tights. 20% off of everything bought online thru Thursday.

I "plan" to ride tomorrow morning, but we'll see.
