Mailing road bike from SF to DC, know any stores that do this?
Hello all,
I'm moving to DC next month where I intend on being a bike commuter. Unfortunately my road bike is with my sister in San Francisco and I won't have a chance to visit her before I begin work in DC.
I was wondering if anyone knows a bike shop in SF that would help pack and ship my bike across the country for me? (My sister doesn't know about bikes and having to disassemble or pack a bike would inconvenience her.) When I was living in Portland I think the Bike Gallery offered that service at a flat rate and they'd send it to another bike shop that'd re-assemble the bike on arrival. Anything similar in SF?
Thank you!

I do not know a specific bike shop in the SF area, however most bike shops will do it $30 or less. They will reuse a box and protect all fragile parts and put stoppers into the fork ends. From there simply pick up and drop off at Fedex or preferred shipping location, I shipped a frame in a 40"x30"x9" box for around $38.
Hope this helps. Reassembly is nothing major, possibly the headset is the only thing requiring careful installation from your bike shop.
