just about got hit in Walnut Creek
i'm reporting this so my survivors are at least aware that i am taking notice of how dangerous cycling is...
today, in downtown Walnut Creek, i was heading north on N. Broadway just before the light at Civic a woman passed me so close that i felt the passenger side touch my elbow. the light was red at Civic and we both had to stop. i looked over and saw her playing around with her cell phone. she had it down near the seat so as to avoid the eyes of any police, i suspect.
i've been riding more often on the MUP these days. i don't like it. but i ride on it.
i want to die from some incurable, incapacitating, debilitating and embarassing disease in a hospital like everybody else.

iron horse sucks ( too many stops) I can see why you wanna stay off the MUP. Be careful out there... you should of had a word with her, I would have.

Do you use a tail light? I find that these actually do help, even in bright daylight. Just set it to the brightest setting and it usually gets most drivers' attention. Actually, I can't say that for sure, but I do notice on average cars will give me more room when they pass or wait until it's actually safe instead of squeezing by. It may not stop some dumb teenager from running you over, only to be sentenced to a few years probation, but at least it makes me feel better.
If the car actually touched you, that seems like it crosses the line into being some kind of assault or whatever, but I'm no lawyer. The driver definitely would have gotten an earful from me, especially if they were on a cell phone.
