I saw someone being hit by a car

On my commute 2 days ago, I was stopped at a light in Brooklyn, with at least 5 other riders on my popular route, when i watch this young woman basically ignore us all stopped there and keep going right through the light. It wasn't as if the road was clear either, the cars were still visible and moving. It all just happened in slow motion when the inevitable occurred, and she was hit squarely by a car. I just can't imagine what she was thinking. The good news is that she got up and walked away from it, extremely shaken. She couldn't have been more than 22 or 23, young enough to be my daughter. I had also seen her before on the ride.

I always stop at the lights, but will go if it is completely clear. I just can never understand these people that will weave through the cross traffic as if it is their right to keep going, and it is usually some hipster on a fixie that does it. If I couldn't walk through at a leisurely pace I would not go on a bike.

Good thing she wasn't hurt worse. Maybe a wakeup call for her to ride smarter?

Did the driver stop? Did they call the police and make a report? I always would.

I NEVER just blindly pass red lights. I must be certain the path is clear especially here. A sense of invincibility will get you killed.

Bikes: couple lugged steel bicycles, 1 fixie, 1 aluminum MTB

Sometimes hard lessons are the best. This one was especially good for her as she was able to walk away with no major injury. I wouldn't be surprised if she told her bicycling friends what almost happened to her, which means they might benefit too.

this happens tons in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

i did see a woman walking her bike talking on her phone in the bike lane on Jay St yesterday in Brooklyn. i asked her to walk her bike out of the bike lane, but she just stayed talking on her phone. i wonder if it's the same woman?
zacster where did it happen?
