Tour de Fronds
The Tour de Fronds is coming up June 20 in the small town of Powers OR. Its a long way from nowhere, but if you live in Southern Oregon, you might want to try it. I did the ride a couple of years ago and it was a kick in the pants. Very small, gorgeous scenery, and the people of Powers bend over backwards to make sure everyone has a great time including live bluegrass music at all aide stations and a lasagna dinner afterwards.

I've been trying to avoid driving to ride. So, at 150+ miles to the start line, it rapidly becomes a very long trip. I have ridden south of here through Dorena, Elkhead, and Oakland before, years ago. It would be a nice ride, but it would end up being about 500 miles in 5 days.
I see you're in Salem. Have you done the Reach the Beach ride that is coming up May 16? I will admit that I have found it annoying that they've dropped the Monroe and Salem starts that they had in the past. Not everyone lives in Portland.

I've ridden the route you mention to Oakland, but I went by Cottage Grove Lake instead of Dorena. You have lots of great riding down there in Eugene.

Maybe it was CG lake, or perhaps I'm confusing rides.
8000 feet of climbing? WHEW!!!! That is like doing the McKenzie Pass twice in one day.
Maybe I could take the bus to Roseburg or Coos Bay which would put me about 50 miles from the start.
