The rules of racing apply to racing. Chains break. Tires roll. Tires flat. Handlebars hook spectators (Armstrong). Spectators punch riders (Merckx). Dogs run out onto the course (I forget that fellow's name). Motorcycles have hit cyclists. And that's only been what's televised. I'm sure there are hundreds of other incidents outside of your definition of racing.

Like it or not, spectators are a part of the race as much as a mechanical. Why does Froome get special dispensation while others don't?

And please don't give the "it's fair" crap. Life, and especially competition, is not fair.
