Tour de France

So it's over I watched everyday, thought Lance had it won by day 3 but still good to watch. If you do any amount of long distance riding (as many of us on here do). I mean at least a 30 mile ride then get up the next day and do 40 or 50 mile ride you gain some respect for these athletes doing on average a century each day.
One question I have is do they need to huck those water bottles all over the landscape? I guess most will get picked up by fans but geez, and then some guys would be right next to the support car and huck it over the side, couldn't he just hand it back to the car? Anyway just thought it was funny, I know in reality it would be a pain passing those back and forth. I wonder how many spectators got whacked by a half-filled water bottle?

I think it all gets picked up. Phil and Paul were saying that there are plastic bags placed all along the route, and at the end of the stages, all the fans pick everything up and there's no litter left on the landscape.

I wouldn't mind getting whacked by a half-filled water bottle. They make great souveniers. I've gone to a few events and fought for some of those bottles. They make cool cycling gifts.

I only watch Phil and Paul. The only pronunciation I have to worry about with them is Leaky-gas.

Thing about all that littering is they can't pick up everything, and they can't pick it up where it matters... as the most rural parts of a stage are the parts lacking people to pick the garbage up.
That is the price France is willing to pay I guess

Imagine what a Lance Armstrong water bottle carried in his final TdF would be worth at a sports auction or on EBAY??

It is much safer for cyclists to toss water bottles into the ditch or into the crowd than to 'hand it back' to the team car, which could result in a dropped bottle on the roadway. The 'litter' left behind from tour riders pales in comparison from what the crowd deposits. Didn't see many 'porta-potties' on the side of the roads, did ya?

For some reason I think human waste is much more enviornmentally friendly than articifial garbage, like plastics. Not sure why...
