Smudge on La Vuelta

At least they didn't grab him and kiss him on the mouth. Or did they?

Counterpunch is a poltical rag with an agenda. Not real cycling journalism.

Honestly, seeing anyone in the US media writing about bike racing seriously is great. The other non-specialist place I saw this Vuelta written up was the Wall Street Journal, holy contradictions of capitalism! (The WSJ has a staff writer who’s passionate about the sport, and every year they let him write up a few pieces, maybe just to keep him happy.)

The Counterpunch piece is overdone, like the writer really just wanted to vent about Sepp, and had to shoehorn in a bit of Marxist analysis before his editors would allow it.

But still, the more attention on the sport, the better.

I'm tired of those 2. I really miss the heydays of Chris Froome and Peter Sagan .

OTOH the heyday of Chris Froome meant the 'Skytrain' and a certain monotony in the way they rode and won. Can't really fault Froome, I think he was a good sportsman and he worked really hard to win--he improved his descending amazingly. But that kind of head-down watching-the-watts riding just wasn't that much fun to watch. And though Sagan animated the races he was in, he was also a 'bad boy' at times, like when he put Cav into the barriers in the 2017 Tour.

Jumbo's come to dominate like Sky did, but IMHO it's much more fun to watch; I think they give their team members much more opportunity to shine.

And hopefully that's going to be even better with the departure of Roglic. I look forward to seeing him and Vingegard going up against each other, Pogacar and Remco too.

All that being said though: that crazy late breakaway in the 2016 Tour was some of the most exciting, and just FUN, bike racing I've ever seen.

Lol...dude doesn't have "editors", he's not a staff writer at CP. St.Clair is the editor and piece was either submitted or he picked it up "fair use" or some such thing.
And you don't need no stinkin' Marxist analysis to get published at CP.
