Kudos to the race referee for catching it and stopping the caravan to let Lance pass through.

you didn't say Hushvod is ahead of Armstrong on GC (which is obvious); you said "At this point though he [Hushvod] is in better shape for yellow than the old man from Texas."
For that to be correct, Hushvod would need about another 2 hours 40 minutes cushion at this point, based on past history.

I'd say he would be in good shape for the GC with Half that time gap. And with a mere 30 minutes he would have a chance and a good chance to hold yellow through the first time in the mountians. (No chance with a mere 30 if the traditional GC contenders work together, but if each waits for others to do the hurt Thor work then he would have a slim chance).

The VRS coverage gave no info on teh others. I checked the TDF site and saw that by the end a couple of them were pretty close. Do you know if they were that close for a while? Or was it just a larger group closing on a much smaller group?

I saw a link somewhere to Horner's post-race comments. I just condensed what I read that was attributed to him.

i am not really a gambler either, the most i have done are the $5 saturday night poker buy ins, but i do use odds sites when assembling fantasy cycling teams. if there was an established secondaries market for the bets that would allow hedging, i might consider it. anyway, this seems to be a pretty good site to check out the best odds:
https://www.oddschecker.com/other-spo...nce/win-market
fyi, armstrong is sitting at 12 right now, contador is at 4/6.

Yes, he did flat. He got held up (may have fallen) when Frank crashed and was in the same group as Contador for a while, then flatted. Greg Rast gave him a front wheel and he lost about 45 seconds [interview]. He got back up to a group behind Contador's but couldn't make up any time.

Contador was gapped off Vino at the line and the announcers suggested a flat. I thought his bike looked a little squirrely and the rear tire low, but I've heard no independent confirmation. Perhaps that's what the poster referred to?
In any case you're right; his gap to the winning group wasn't caused by a flat.

Yes, I was referring to the last 1k or so of the race where Contador finished on a flat rear tire. Watched the
end again (thank you DVR) and it's obvious his rear tire is down.
for all the speculation about Lance having no support after his puncture, he rode away from Popo and another
TRS rider before he started threading his way through the support vehicles.
All kidding aside, chapeau to Alberto for a more than decent run over the pave.

I read that he broke a couple of spokes somewhere in cobbles and basically was struggling with rubbing brakes due to the wheel going out of true. On velonews or cyclingnews, forget which one.

Yeah, I heard two broken spokes, but nothing about brake rub. Makes sense though.
AC rode well, but in his regard chapeau should go to the fates that limited his mechanicals. Think of poor Sylvain Chavernal and his three bike changes.

I recall Contador saying something about his brakes rubbing - forget if it was a video or a quote.
Slightly OT: my Spanish is quite rusty from almost 10 years of non-use, but I do like the way Contador comes across in Spanish interviews. He appears to be a very mellow and chilled out guy.
