The other thing is that the breakaways' had a chance at a stage win...they all knew that if Lance was in the breakaway, then anyones chances of a stage win were blown

I was watching stage 16 that I taped on my DVR a few weeks ago and there was "EPO LANCE" painted on the street. I'm not sure if he saw it but it was easy to see on the helicopter shot. Sad...
I can't believe how those riders can ride with all those "fans" in their way like that.

If you're good - you're GOOD, in my book, period! .... even if you like it in the A** or not.

I read recently that he was not going to give the Italians what they wanted - him (Lance) cycling in the Giro. Due to all the legal crap going on. But he did go on to say that he would rather cycle in the Giro vs. the Tour de Spain.
I just read an article about Cunego last night. 23 yeard old and already a powerhouse. If I was a betting man, I would have to lean towards Lance Head-to-head. I just think Lance has the "experience", and that goes a long way in winning many of these races.

I really believe Bjarne Riis has put together a team that can challenge Lance at the TdF. Basso has some supermen to pull him around France. Voigt, Piil, Sastre, and Julich to begin with. Lots of break away firepower with Zabriskie and Schleck.
The way Postal did it last year was that they would tempo ride the legs off of everybody at the base of the mountains, position a rider or two to carry Lance up the side, then have Lance close the deal. Very simple and effective.
I look at CSC's squad and I think they'll match up against this strategy very well. They're looking strong the last month with some impressive break aways in Qatar and Mediterraneen. They won't be easy to wear down. Plus Basso has last year's experience that he can tap. Plus there are lesser mountaintop finishes in this year's Tour.
You have to favor Lance, but I think Basso is a lock for the podium and could possibly duel Lance in the mountains.

Simeoni's a crybaby.
Little snitch.
"He say mean things to me. Very, very mean man Mr. Armstrong. Why is he so bad, I only sued him."
Real men settle disputes between each other, this guy is a crybaby.

ahhhhh. . . tangents, gotta love em.
The thing that no one has mentioned is that Lance chasing down the break occured when he had the Tour wrapped up and there was no reason to attack or try to gain minutes.
Yes, Merckx would attack even when he didn't have to, but he explained that he did that because he got paid based on wins and wanted to earn more money for his team. It was a different era.

My snideness aside, there are different rules for sports than the rest of life. LA was a a bully, but taking out personal scores on the playing field (or the race course) has long been a part of sports. Simeoni is being a weenie by trying to use the courts to make up for what he couldn't do on the race course.

There are plenty of valid reasons for going to court. Even valid reasons for leaking something to the press. But this is neither. Simeoni is a crybaby.
You don't take a guy to court and then cry to the press when he ****s with you in a race because of it.

Ahhh, time to bring this thread back to life:
This was just in cyclingnews.com:
Italian Prosecutor Giuseppe Quattrocchi has decided to not pursue Filippo Simeoni's complaint in 2004 for intimidation and insults allegedly made by Lance Armstrong during Stage 18 of the 2004 Tour de France, from Annemasse to Lons le Saunier. Quattrocchi nixed Simeoni's case as he decided that the events were part of a sporting event and had nothing to do with public life.
Although Simeoni alleged that Armstrong threatened him, the case came down to Armstrong's word against Simeoni's and Prosecutor Quattrocchi has decided that Simeoni's allegations had insufficient credibility to proceed with.

Referencing the first post. These kind of events just give the sport character. Without character it is just another race.
