One of the greatest rides I've ever seen!

The '87 Tour is great but maybe gets overshadowed by the Lemond-Hinault drama in '86 and Lemond-Fignon drama of '89.

'87 had everything; multiple lead changes, 4 individual time trials including a 54 mile (not Km) TT and a TT up Mount Ventoux, a race saving move by Roche on the final climb to La Plagne and a change of leads at the final TT. It als had what was kind of a comeback stage win for Fignon who had been injured for a couple of years and two stage wins by Americans, Davis Phinney in Bordeaux and Jeff Pierce on the Champs-Élysées.

It probably had a lot to do with not having a returning champion. LeMond was recoving from the gun shot, Hinault had retired and Fignon hadn't really been healthy for a while.

'83 was interesting for the same reasons, this time Hinault was injured and his young unknown teammate Fignon emerged as the winner.

The 80's definitely had some of the most exciting Tours.

I have searched but never found one.

If I recall from reading the accounts, it was a total blizzard over the pass and of course that he rode off the front was remarkable but I seem to recall that his descent was even more skillful and daring. I suspect due to how long ago it was and the nasty weather, there is no really good footage. I wish there were. Bob Roll discusses how coated in ice he was and his permanent shrinkage after the race but actual footage is limited.
