Direct v. Linkage

Linkage requires twice as many (at least) pivots built into the frame, along with a fair amount of specialized hardware. Direct can use mostly standard bicycle parts.
Linkage is useful in cases where the bike or trike's design precludes direct steering. Beyond that, the geometry of the bike (fork, frame, angles, trail, wheel diameter, etc.) determines its handling qualities.
