I wonder if there will be any bent riders.

Actually, my thread title should have had a question mark.

Possible? Sure.

With my engine the bent of choice would be the trike with the small ring replaced with a granny.

Definitely doable on a trike.

yeah but with a trike don't have the chair lean too far back else you will just slide right off over the rear wheel with that 45 degree incline!

I've driven those streets on a Harley, car & 18 wheeler, but it's not going to happen on my trike.

I know of at least one rider who's done De Ronde Van Oeste Portlandia on a recumbent. He's a young stud with knees of steel:

Micheal Wolfe appears at 4:10. Green jersey, munching on a muffin...

Hill-climbing is one of the few on-road things for which uprights are optimized. OTOH, comfort is not a requirement for a ride that short. Could recumbents do it? Sure... but I don't see why a recumbent rider would want to anymore than an upright rider would want to time-trial against a streamliner. Different designs have different strengths.

I've gone up Wertz Street here in Charleston, and White Oak, and Summit, and Edgewood, and many others on my Greenspeed. WV is called 'the Mountain State' for good reason, and Charleston is, essentially, in the bottom of a canyon.

Sounds like this event might be more fun. Same city - different attitude:

Sunday, August 22nd. There is another Sunday Streets in San Francisco that day. Some folks (like myself) might like to do that ride. (The ride is through Golden Gate park, down the Great Highway, to the Zoo.)

Bikes: Lots

Bikers often size each other up by checking out chain rings. Fixed-gear bikes have one chain, while others have two or three. “The younger dudes sport two chain rings in front,” said Reider. He’s got three chains, the smallest fondly dubbed a “Granny Gear.” “With all that climbing, I gotta save my 52-year old knees somehow,” he said.

Does that article writer know anything about bicycles? heh

I saw some vids a while back of a bent rider on that steep hill event on the east coast, forget the name

There are no roads with a 45 degree incline.

Maybe he meant 45 degree REcline, which would still be pretty tame. Regardless, I've never seen a recumbent rider slide out of the seat. Chalk it up to a poor attempt at humor. But at least it was an attempt.
