Getting Bent!
On Thursday, Jan 6. the wife and I traded in our MTB's for 2- Sun Bicycles, EZ-1 SX Recumbents. Yes, I know they are "bottom line, entry level, ect." but we wanted "new" and these machines where the "best" we could afford. Should be here by Tue. 11th. and hopefully we will be "riding" them, (IF it doesn't snow to much Sun/Mon, RATS), by next weekend!! We will still be keeping our, "Wedgie" road/touring hybrids, turning them into our, "commuter/utility" and back up bikes.
IF, we decide that "Recumbents" are the "way to go" our next purchase will be a R-Tandem, sell off the road hybrids and use the EZ-1's for our "commuter/utility" and back up bikes! We don't own a CAR so we "have" to have back up bikes for when the main bikes are being serviced, etc.

That's similar to how I got into recumbents.
I started with a new Sun EZ Sport for myself and eventually got the wife a new Sun SX-1, after sharing a used Sun EZ Tandem with her for a couple of years. I've since found a used Volea Tour and a used Easy Racers Tour Easy for myself.
I think that once you're accustomed to the recumbent world, finding quality used afordable units is a good way to go.
Enjoy the new bikes!!

Agreed that everyone must have a Back Up Bike.
I've never been able to interest my wife in riding a 'bent. My starter Tailwind would have been perfect for her - not interested.
But......no trouble talking her into being a 'bent stoker. I promised her that she would be supremely comfortable and that we would never again have to call out 'Butt Break' when riding tandem. Now, if only the weather and roads will clear.
Have fun on the new bikes!

You will never regret your decision. I was lucky I started out on a fantastic deal on a Rans Tailwind. Within a couple of days I was rock solid in the bent community. A couple of years ago when I retired after 47 years with the Co, I upgraded to the Rans Stratus I now ride.

Crossthread from 50+

Just a photo to show we finally got the roads clear and got out for a short ride, (cloudy, breezy) on the new recumbents! They are FUN, it's certainlly not a "fast" machine but I don't think you could beat them for "PURE" smell the roses riding!
Can't wait for the Spring so there's not so much, "ice and water" on the roads to get more R-bike time! The only bad thing, well were gona have to SAVE a lot of money for the next R-bike, it's gona be a R-tandem!

Wow! Those are sure an eye-popping blue!
I wonder why they route the return side chain up and over an idler. It looks totally unnecessary.

Recumbency is a disease manifest by the symptoms of never having just the right recumbent bike/trike. There is no cure unfortunately, but you sure do have a lot of fun on your way to the poor house.

n + 1 applies to all kinds of bikes, not just 'bents.

, single idlers, groups of 2, 3, 4, ect. We looked at a used BikeE and it had "no idler" at all, coming from the DF world, it sure looks complicated and "chain replacment" is gona put a "bite" in the wallet too! I did read on some older model "EZ-1's, that they had a semi-problem with the "chain" jumping off the small chain wheel, maybe the "over/under" helps with that??

Ya we got in a short ride on Sunday but it never got anywhere near the "50 F", they said it would, it kept getting slowly colder as we rode, then after lunch, we started seeing our breath and headed home. It's snow, ice, COLD as !@#$ today, talking about 20 below zero windchills for Tues./Weds. here, hope you get better in KC.!!
