Hey Philly kids, how impossible would this race be for out-of-towners? A couple of us are thinking about coming up for it--ideas?

hey purplebike sorry I didn't repsond to you via your pm. I would say not that hard. I give out maps to folks with manifest. you have to route yourself. philly is just one big grid really. this year lots of the stops are not that far (well some are) but I think you can hold it down.

come up and rock out. fun times. last year we had 30 or so teams. I would like 50 that would be nuts.

Stellar!

We were trying to figure out if A) there would be maps and B) if the locations would be really obscure, but it seems like it won't be.

Assuming I can get the car, we're totally coming. Anyone got floor space?

Oh yeah, that was my other question, would it be much easier for us to be sprinters and find local runners? And, duh, cupcakes will be traveling with me for you guys.

some folks did that way. other folks just tried to get the first place out of town. this year I am hoping to have two bags for first place out of town from freight baggage. I just have to talk to travis when I go to san fran next week for the naccc..

I'm glad to hear about the maps. does everyone do every checkpoint in the same order or is it the luck of the draw?
I won one of Travis's pre-Freight bags in a race a few years ago. It'd be great to try for a new one (though the old one is going strong after three years of daily use).

the team has a hour or so to map out their stragety. you don't have to do all the checkpoints in order.

who puts on this race? is there any info from previous year's races? i'd kinda like to know what i'm getting into since i don't know what i expected for the r.e.load race, but what i got was an overwhelming clusterf*ck that took an hour of sitting down and planning out. but i did have fun, and that's what counts.

Dailey puts it on. What sort of info are you after? You're getting into a superfun race and party that is much more concrete than the (also superfun) april fools race. Come on down! You'll love it!

what the set up of the race is, how far is the sprinter going (from the art museum to where), is the runner just delivering packages (real packages?) all over philly, is it a points race or a regular manifest race, about how long was last years, pictures, videos, etc ?

You can only come if you promise not to end up in the hospital this time.

I'll supply the bread.

No campers though.

There goes my plan of visiting a hospital in every major city in America... I'm so done with getting hit. Seriously. And the campers...uh...yeah...no. Can you nab some of those yummy chocolate croissant things again? mmm.

No packages. Well, envelopes, but nothing big. I did it without a bag last year. The sprinter's route is something like 2.2 miles round trip. Regular manifest style race. The sprinter picks the next drop at the art museum, delivers the envelope to the runner, and the runner scampers off to do the thing that the envelope says to. Not a particularly long race, I am pretty sure that the winners took about an hour and a half last year (?). I know nothing of pics or videos.

chip thunder is right on but this year I am planning on have somewhat bigger or even more fragile packages this time around. so a bag would be idea for both members of the team. it's a ****ing messenger race... yeah the winning team took about almost 2 hours to do it maybe a little less. this time around there will be more checkpoints then the previous years. (this will be the third year for me doing this race. I took it over from a old messenger, dan muprhy.)

so yeah have fun....big bbq afterwards... with tons of beer.. and red bull!!!!
