- i too ride in fear of getting doored, moreso than usual. i'm quite small at the moment, but i have been reducing my speed significantly, partly to have more reaction time and partly because my cardio level seems be next to nil these days. however, apparently i can still rip a decent skid, as i discovered on my way to work the other day - no thanks to the jackass paper deliverer that nearly got me with a (unsignalled) right hook. the way i look at it is the foetus has more padding than i do and that i want to avoid transit as long as possible to stay strong/least-stressed, but it seems like i'm an anomoly with this perspective.

fyi there is a short section of new path open from dundas and sterling to cariboo and osler as of this weekend, with another stretch south to strachan soon to be ready. too bad it'll only be 6.5kms, but maybe if it is successful it will be expanded.

The launch of the “SAFE CYCLING – SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITY” campaign which will take place on Monday June 22nd, 7:00 a.m., 2009 at College Street between Augusta and Bellevue Avenue.

The Safe Cycling – Sharing The Responsibility Campaign will commence on Monday, June 22, 2009. The campaign will conclude on Sunday, June 28, 2009. The traffic strategy is a one-week initiative, designed to promote awareness and education by reducing the potential for cycling related injuries.

Traffic Services officers, along with Yvonne Bambrick Executive Director of the Toronto Cyclists Union, will be present to speak with the Media.

The Toronto Police Service reminds motorists of the dangers of opening car doors in the path of cycl ists and the importance of checking blind spots prior to making right turns. Officers will pay particular attention to those motorists who endanger the lives of cyclists including vehicles parked in designated bike lanes. Attention will also be paid to cyclists whose aggressive riding puts themselves, pedestrians and motorists at risk.

Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians have a responsibility to share the road equally by driving safely, riding responsibly, and obeying all the rules of the road.

As long as the main floor is smaller than the rest of the house, it would qualify as secondary suite and you'd just need to bring it up to code. If it's close (e.g. second story = main floor) you can probably apply for a variance if the difference is small.
