Cycling will be a part of the Games, with BMX, Road, Mountain Bike and Track all part of the submitted bid. The total cost for the bid is set at $2.4 billion, including the Athlete Village. This winning bid means that southern Ontario is scheduled to receive a velodrome, with Hamilton Region the stated location - however, that is still not set in stone. Our understanding is that the bid included a budget of $11.4 million for a velodrome, which is very much on the low side for a permanent, world-class facility. The Road and BMX events will take place in Toronto (with a permanent BMX track to be built), and Mountain Bike at Hardwood Hills, north of Barrie. Also, the bid does not include any cycling disciplines for the Parapan (Paralympic) Games that will immediately follow the Pan Am Games.

Good call! Maybe they actually meant that little road just to the west of the bridge though, off Beechwood I think? It is paved and I think the pavement is in good condition. Would make for a better uphill than downhill though.

So, what's the deal with stupidly expensive meesenger bags, anyways? Anyone got any tips on affordable and locally available bags. Nope, I'm not a messenger, but my Brenta works well going from train to bike to worksite and keeps its contents readily accessible (moreso than a back-pack). I'm reaching the limits of its capacity (30 litres) but $190-230 for more capacity is ridiculous.

you can get really big nylon messenger bags for like $100, but the quality is not the same

i paid almost $200 for my bag, but i fully expect it to still be usable in 10 years

i paid about $120 for my pac bag 6 or so years ago and its still going strong. if you want cheaper than that try under the weather. either way spending a bit more on the bag will mean it sould last quite a while...

I bought my UTW two years ago and the only thing it has done with all it's use has become more comfortable. The nice part about a more expensive bag is that you can get changes made to suit your needs. Sam made me a longer and wider shoulder pad and added a sleeve for tools at a very minimal cost.

On another note; in my wheeling and dealing I am left with a brand new Mirage group. I cannot extend the usual TO Fixed discount (FREE) that is usually offered between members *ahem*krusty*ahem*...(you rock BTW) but I can definetly work a sweet deal. Look for it on craigers. I'll add the link when the site decides to load for me.

I really like my MEC courier bag and it is pretty cheap, about $60 after taxes and everything. Not as huge as some but there are lots of compartments inside and the zippers outside are water resistant...

For the mechanics amongst us---I have a 9-speed Veloce setup that I like but I just found some nice wheels (Zondas) for a good price but they are 10-speed. Am I out of luck? Or can I somehow use my 9-speed cassette on these wheels and space them out? Thanks!

I thought that they were interchangeable too but I cannot seem to get the 9-speed cassette to work on this 10-speed Zonda hub, it is off by about 2mms. I wonder if it is because the 9-speed cassette is a bit older?

Can you use a spacer? I've heard you can do that to put an 8 speed cassette on a 9 speed hub.

No, the 9-speed cassette sits too far away from the hub so there are not enough threads on the axle to thread it on....I need to somehow get the 9-speed cassette closer to the hub.
