I guess my overall feeling is not violation, because in the back of my mind I always knew this would happen. Now that it actually has happened, I feel that whoever did this is pathetic... Really now, how much of a ****-stain of a life must you have to resort to sealing bikes/bike-parts?

Damn, that totally sucks. I have lots of spare parts and wheels, let me know what you need.

What were the circumstances of the theft?

TRaffic Jammer 11-23-09 10:58 AM

Dirt bags!!!!!

kergin 11-23-09 11:21 AM

I normally lock my bike up @ work in the parking garage whenever I need to do anything for more than 20 minutes in the core... Unfortunately, the night before, I was given a new wallet and forgot to transfer my passcard, which forced me to lock up to a post. In this particular case, I was volunteering for OOTC @ St. Pats on McCaul. The bike was out for 4 hours (7-11pm)... Not very smart on my part.

The front wheel was secured with an allen key, so whoever jacked this stuff had the tools to do so. Upon closer inspection at home, I noticed the paint on the rear dropouts was scratched and the rear hub nuts were partly rounded, so they also attempted to steal the rear wheel... They either gave up because it was on there too tight, they lacked the tools, or realized the krypto was locking the frame AND rear wheel...

Looks like I need to use rennick's ball bearing trick, along with the saddle chained to stays thing. Might get some pitlocks, too.

Jet, thanks for the offer. I think I have enough spare parts to cover me on this one... The only thing missing is a seatpost collar, but those aren't universal. The bike will look pretty funny with a 32H open-pro in the front with a Bontrager paired-spoke rear wheel, though :P

ahhhhh fk sorry d00d that totally sux. fk'in D-bags

tuz 11-23-09 01:07 PM

It really sucks. Sorry.

So I guess you really can't lock a nice bike out for an extended time. No matter how infrequently. Pfff it's nice to have a beater for short errands, but for commuting the only way is secure parking so it seems.

kergin 11-23-09 01:46 PM

^^ yea, you really can't. As much as we all like bling, there's something about the practicability of a *** townie.

I_bRAD 11-23-09 02:31 PM

It doesn't have to be a beater, it just has to look like a beater. That and lock it up next to a flashy bike with a crappy lock.

TRaffic Jammer 11-23-09 02:36 PM

Subterflash?

cavit8 11-23-09 05:59 PM

A friend wants to build up a light commuter. Any suggestions for an Aluminum frame ~ 43 cm to use as a starting point?

kergin 11-24-09 08:47 AM

Anyone need a 57cm? http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/bik/1480121385.html I'm thinking Jet would be interested. Sadly, I'm too short, otherwise I'd be on it.

Flimflam 11-24-09 09:14 AM

Man that sucks, kergin :(

I have to lock up outside at my new place, but fortunately they have a rack right outside the main entrance which is also manned by security.

Hrm, it is very rare and it looks to have some 600 components on it. I bet the seller is overwhelmed with responses, that is a great price for a nice bike...

What type of hooks do people use to hang their bikes? I'll need to hang the hook on a vertical wall, so it's not a ceiling job. I was thinking about the Delta Leonardo Bike Storage Rack from MEC. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I_bRAD 11-26-09 12:56 PM

At my old place I just used those santoprene (rubber) coated hooks from the hardware store. Don't see any reason why they wouldn't work on a wall (make sure you screw into a stud!) Much cheaper than fancy "bike" hanging hooks!

jeremywhitehorn 11-26-09 04:26 PM

yup - the 99 cent ones from canadian tire work great...

I still have 2 or 3 wall hooks available for free if you like. They are the type that you hook the front wheel into.

Man those Schwalbe CX PRO tires kick butt!!! Can't wait to see what else I can ride through with them. Went to Greenwood park last night to try them. Sand, several inches of water+grass, water soaked sand, it was all good grippy fun. Fast on the road, no buzz. nice Thanks Pyze for the head's up on these bad boys.

iherald 11-27-09 08:46 AM

All cross folk: I'm not in the market for (though I really want one) a cross bike. If you come across a super deal (under $800) for a 58+ cross bike let me know. I figure those who race might hear about someone upgrading and trying to get rid of their old stuff.

jeremywhitehorn 11-27-09 09:03 AM

glad you mentioned those tires TJ - i was contemplating trying them out on my winter bike (assuming we get any snow this year...). what size have you running?

TRaffic Jammer 11-27-09 09:18 AM

I got the 26inch version, says it run's 1.3 inches wide, but dude they're skinny. They have a 700C version as well.

700x30 it says here.

Whomever it was that posted up the torrent to Nine Ball Diaries, thank you .. I dl'd it and was watching it when my 12 year old came downstairs and was completely enthralled by it, and has since voiced that she'd like to try it.

jeremywhitehorn 11-27-09 09:30 AM

yeah, i saw the 700x30s at urbane and they looked a little skinnier than that. maybe i'll try one out when the show flies...

TRaffic Jammer 11-27-09 09:35 AM

The only issue would be clearances, either in tight frames or with a brake. Nice tire though, I'm thinkin' this is going to be fun in the snow.

No problem, see my above post about now wanting a cross bike! :)

I don't know if this is a "super" dea, I will let the CX guys chime in on thatl but it seems pretty good and it is under $800. This is not the first time it has been listed either so he would probably go down to $650:
