I have played far too many campaigns in my day....spent high school physics class creating band characters.

thanks for all the kind words guys! i like the new bike idea! i kind of have a hankering for a fancy pants modern light bike. at condor they said they might sell me one of their rapha team track frames. and i'm going to have an excess trip budget. hmmm. then i'll get a trainer and ride it in that until i can support weight with my shoulder. hmm... something to ponder.

i'll take you guys up on the offers, i should have you guys over when i get back! woot!

keith can i ship my bike to cavern? the front wheel is out of true but i think it's fine otherwise. i can't carry it now or ride it anyway though so i was thinking of getting a bike store to box it up and just ship it home.

german healthcare rules. i didn't wait at all, not even for tests they actually kept a close watch on me and i made friends with everyone they were so nice. they held my bike for me in emerge. the food was good! aside from the pain, the ambulance ride was actually pretty cool. intravenous pain killers rule.

the cops came to the scene and took real statements. i got copies of the driver's contact info and insurance numbers as police documents. the police also came to hospital and waited for me to be more lucid before confirming my statement and cheching if i was ok. and get this: the driver's insurance is supposed to pay my medical bills because she was at fault. I have travel health insurance which will cover it otherwise but still! makes sense. and i was treated as a vehicle.

i love berlin. it's such a drag that i can't ride here anymore because it's beautiful. there are bike lanes everywhere and the traffic isn't bad at all. it actually moves. beautiful city. i could live here (after learning german).

sorry for my weird sentence srtucture, it takes so much longer typing with one hand! auf weinersen

Go for the Rapha Team! I am glad you were treated well in Germany. My Aunt had a massive heart attack while visiting her son in England last Thurs. and they took very good care of her as well. She is a nurse/prof/dean and might write a book about the experience. Unfortunately she should have stayed at arms length to do the research ;)

You can for sure ship yer bike to the shop. No worries there.
Extra travel $ now and that is the "danpositive"TM way to look at it. Hell ship 3 bikes back here if you so wish! I will have em all up and ready to ride for you. I also have a stationary trainer for you to use if you feel so inclined.
I too have had some experience with the German health care system. A buddy had a mild heart attack when I was there a few years back. I accompanied him to the hospital where the staff was great. The cardiologist was an awesomely tattooed and pierced Goth woman who was very helpful and genuinely seemed to care about the patient. I thought at the time how our Western society would never allow her, a highly trained and capable professional, to work in this field because of her appearance. Sad but true.
Enjoy the rest of yer time there buddy...take care. And I also second the flaxen haired freulein to massage away the aches and pains. Works wonders.

Sorry about your luck Dan!

unfortunatly i wont make the ride tonight. just leaving work now in the west end coupled with up all night with food poisoning... (stay away from amato's on dundas west) i'm unfortunatly not gonna make it in time. i really wanted to break in the new to me road bike i just built up too. i did run into Matt on the street yesterday, its funny how its easy for some to recognise people from thier tattoos... especially for me since i work for a tattoo/bodmod website.

Safe riding guys!

My ego is so bruised. I bit it going over some tracks and ended up going to the inamorata's place for Thai food and ice packs. A couple minor contusions and a profound sense of embarassment. My head may also have bent someone's rim.

Anyway, glad to see so many out. Nice ride all.

Flimflam 08-17-07 06:47 PM

cavit8, I heard about someone skidding along on their helmet, that must've been you I guess... I saw someone go down on the tracks on .. Ossington? but that didn't seem so bad.

Good ride, was glad to have a brief chance to chat to Thoby and both Mr and Mrs. Prinsep - I actually ended up putting the front wheel on Charlies' fixie for Thoby at the start. Apparently I looked like I knew what I was doing, heh.Bummed I didn't get a spoke card, it happens.

Was fantastic to see such support, even Olivia Chow MP made it out. Ride on.

2wheelsgood 08-17-07 07:00 PM

it was good to see everybody tonight, albeit under negative circumstances. it made me think we(i) need to get out for more group rides. the dim sum and kensington meetings need to come back. mattrennick- nice to meet you outside teh interwebs.

LordFoo 08-17-07 07:42 PM

This is a bit redundant, but it was really good to see everyone out there for the ride. Charlie's family seemed really happy in seeing all of his friends coming out in support. At first count, I think there were nearly 150 people!

Cam - just wanted to check in to see about the fall, but I'm glad it was mostly your ego that suffered the road rash. Hope that Thai food was paired with a good beer or two :) Heal fast.

If folks didnt get one and want one we can arrange for more. Or T.J. did post up the images so you could always make one up. If the demand is such that we need to do another run we can. Sorry I didnt get more lammed. My bad.

At least you were on the "beater bike" The Pin would have been worse. "danpositive"

nerdsgirth 08-17-07 08:16 PM

Dupy what time is the ride tomorrow morn 7:30? Rob and I are sitting on the porch planing the attack with bellies full of gyanesse roti and steamwhistle.

Sirrobinofcoxly 08-17-07 09:01 PM

Great seeing all the FGG boys/girls again. I feel like it's been a long time (for me at least). I think Charlie would have been touched and proud that all of us showed our love for him in such a personal way.

- nerdsgirth, I'm glad your girl is happy with her new bike. She'll be well taken care of.

- Fuzzz/DrBenway, nice to put a face to the name. Hope to see you guys out on the road.

somnambulant 08-17-07 09:04 PM

canice 08-17-07 09:31 PM

a ridiculous, unbelievable string of bad luck in montreal delayed my drive home by 6 hours, and i missed the ride - heard the sounds like canada segment while in the car yesterday though, was very heartening to have a sympathetic journalist conducting the interview. i don't suppose there's any spokecards left?

dan: that sucks so bad. i am never leaving my house again. there must be a pox on all of us.

cavit8 08-17-07 10:06 PM

A very good CTV spot as well. Highlighted Charlie well, Thoby and 'tino did good spots. A very positive bit of coverage.

jeremywhitehorn 08-17-07 10:45 PM

damn i missed the news! i got to cut out of work early so i rode around cabbage town looking for you guys but alas i was too late. rode by the house of parliament and spotted dr. benway's bike so i stopped in and he told me all about the ride - made me wish i was there even more. anyways, enough moaning, i'm glad it went well.

Danhalen 08-18-07 04:26 AM

Thanks again guys. It's so good to hear about the turnout and positive vibe of the ride yesterday. It helps a bit even from accross the sea.

Keith i would love to borrow the trainer that's top notch. Thanks! I don't want to lose fitness over this. Hell I want to gain fitness. I'm not sure when I'm coming back but I'll see y'all soon. Rock and Roll.
