Icy dicey today, definitely bad move forgetting a scarf/headwear duppy

I have found drivers driving split-laned a bit, but for the most part they've been pretty accommodating. True test will be riding east tonight, yay for fun :p

Almost took the MTB today, but chose roadie - most of the majors are clear enough. I walked the bike to Ronces down Marion, though (ice is my concern, snow was a breeze) :p

Horrors of spam: "Beat her womb with your new rod!"

Seriously, WHAT THE ****?!

rotarepo 11-23-07 01:38 PM

Da28 32h w/stickers = 489.88g
HB-7600 F.hub w/track nuts = 238.3g
r.hub w/track nut + lockring = 315.8g

cavit8 11-23-07 01:52 PM

How prickish is TTC about bikes on the subway during rushhour? I'll have the folded picnica today, but it would be a pain to ride all the way to Keele station....

TRaffic Jammer 11-23-07 02:05 PM

I think you'd be ok with a folder.. hella smaller than a full on bike... Kids carry bags bigger than a folded bike

I think you could do better than an Alex DA28 to lace up to a dura-ace hubset. :) Even Velocity Aeroheads are roughly 405g (claimed)... although I have no idea what the price difference is between the two.

they definitely have a no bike policy during rush hour

but how much do the ttc employees actually care? probably not at all

just saw someone in the market booting around on one of those and thought of you. quite nifty looking. with the ttc it might depend on the mood of the ticket taker, but hopefully if it's folded they won't notice.

as i was putting my gear back on after being in a store i noticed a gentleman waiting in a car outside the window; he looked absolutely enthralled by this process, and continued to look on as brad and i were unlocking. i can only imagine his wonderment that people - and a couple, no less - actually can be okay about riding in "this weather".

yeah, that's more or less what I've thought. I'll be getting on at Donlands heading West so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I wish I had a shoulder bag big enough to fit it, though. The ones I have are either too short or not wide enough :-p. Considering it's a lot smaller than a double wide baby carriage, it's idiotic. I can carry a 12 foot ladder onto the TTC but my bike is prohibited. Nice going TTC.

TRaffic Jammer 11-23-07 02:42 PM

if it's all folded up ...just pretend it's a mobility assistance device.. in like Flynn

I_bRAD 11-23-07 02:45 PM

Hey, I just got a new (to me) pair of boots and they came with custom orthotics! If anyone knows Michael Denton #377, let him know I have his boots. Well let him know I've got his orthotics. The boots are mine now.

Also, I got some kick ass Merino wool socks. They're for kicking ass with warm feet.

in years past i've ridden with slicks, but as of this week i'm using an old hybrid and i'm really surprised how stable the tires feel over the ice. kendas = cheap and easy (just like me). unlike knobby tires that can get bunged up with snow (and then become more slippery imho) or studs (though i have yet to try them) that shouldn't see pavement, they have a chevron tread.

Depends on the collector. If your bike doesn't look like a bike (e.g folded up in a bike bag that doesn't say FOLDED BIKE in giant letters on the side) then you should be ok.

It's annoying bringing it on during rush hour, the subway is usually 99.99% crowded up the ass.

Yeah I know, but the DA28 is 28mm profile vs aerohead 19mm. And no i'm not lacing da28's to dura ace hubs :)

The 38mm deep shamal front wheel is suposedly ~ 880g's. Which is ridiculously light for an AL rim wheel that deep.

the next trend in carbon fiber?

"Tyler is the engineering student from Brigham Young University who created this carbon fiber truss design. This is a 2 lb frame with no rider weight limit."

somnambulant 11-24-07 08:12 AM

anyone out for a ride and/or coffee this morning?

TRaffic Jammer 11-24-07 09:21 AM

Math/physics geeks, CF and bikes... a funky combination.
Off for lunch with the inlaws and then attacking an unsuspecting IKEA.

Danhalen 11-24-07 09:39 AM

*grumble/scratch etc.* I passed out in my clothes, on top of my clean laundry last night. Classy huh? I'm heading out now actually. Coffee/breakfast etc.

The cat must have been pissed that you took it's spot.

So long as the cat didn't decide to piss then I'd say cool ;)

weather.com says it's 1C, but man I'm having a hard time building motivation to go outside - desperately need to do some maintenance to keep my drivetrain in shape, my headset cups are decidedly grindy/mucky too. I'm surprised neither of my brake calipers didn't freeze up last night with all the water and windchill on them, all was well though.

Roads aren't plowed up here. THere's still a good 1-3cm of snow on the ground. About to go out and try riding. Do it!
