Probably the guy was half corked wandered in to use the washroom after getting gas for his stalled car and lit a cigarette, forgetting he had a gas can between his feet. Only in Canada would a bomb-call draw a crowd.

Has anyone taken the subway east into downtown? I did the other day and I always love looking out when we go over the DVP..... Has anyone ever noticed the deralict running track on the western edge of the valley? It seems accessable from the bike path, and with a little lovin' would make a great urban dirt track. I wonder who owns it?

And what pray tell is wrong with a little carbon? While I am a firm believer in "steel is real" nothing wrong with a little carbon seatpost here or fork there.

It's funny because it's a carbon-look chainstay protector. :) I actually have no problem with carbon either. Although carbon seatposts scare me for some reason.. I don't know why I think this for carbon only, but I just picture some big splintery broken seatpost aimed at my ass.

Did you change your mind? Didn't see you. Pretty big turnout-I flatted out half way up keele, so I road a lot of it solo. Felt like a had a head wind which ever way I was riding:) Man, my legs are sore, that is the first road ride of the season for me.

I'm kinda shy about carbon myself, it gets all explody when it fails and thats just not how I want a weight bearing component to go.

Firstly I would like to state that I have no stake or interests in carbon manufacturing facilities.
Not that long ago I was the retrogrouch to end all retrogrouches. Suspension forks? Wusses. Clipless pedals? whats wrong with clips and straps. Hydraulic brakes? Needlessly complicated.
I have seen the error of my ways. Carbon stuff is admittedly over priced. But I have to admit....the first time I tried a carbon fork on one of my bikes I was hooked. I had never felt a fork in any material that rode as nicely as carbon does. As far as durability goes.....I have seen more catastropic failures over the years in aluminum parts (mainly forks, seatposts and handlebars) than carbon ti or steel. My 220lb ass rides confidently on a carbon post on my track bike. Hope this trust is not misplaced.

When you say track bike is it the bike that rides on the track? I'd not worry about a carbon fork on a velodrome either. No squirrels.... :lol:
I was thinking about switching out the suspension fork on my MTB to a stiffy.

i've tried a carbon fork and liked it fine, but my opinion is that i don't avoid carbon on principal alone, or for fear of failure, but simply because i'm too cheap. i'll probably own some carbon parts at some point, but like any new technology you have to wait until the market is saturated for the prices to come down to reasonable levels. plus, i don't know of many carbon forks made with fender eyelets, except for a few in the UK where they know all about rain.

Sadly my "track" bike has not seen the track yet.

Sorry I woke up too late (lazly bum that I am). It was a crosswind for most of the day if you were travelling north/south. That kinda blew. I think I would've gotten dropped at km 0 anyways. My fitness isn't that great atm from a winter of sedentary lifestyling.

Hey no problem. Maybe next week. Either those guys have gotten faster, or I have gotten slower over the winter. Last year I didn't have any trouble holding my own, but yesterday I was hurting.

does anyone know anything about Serotta Frames? particularly vintage models, what type of tubing would they have used? i'm thinking columbus. cavernmech - any insights? i'm thinking of putting a bid in on this as it's my size, no one scoop it from under me!
