That's about the same touring geometry as my Gardin conversion (passed down to me), whose fit I've been perpetually battling over the past few years. My road bike fits me like a glove (a 55 cm virtual TT Lemond, which has fairly relaxed geometry for a road bike, but much more aggressive than a touring bike), but the 52 cm ST on the Gardin means that I have to have lots of seatpost extension to get high enough above the BB to avoid knee pain**. Due to the slack angles, this puts me even further back from the cockpit; so even with a 90mm stem, I end up feeling a bit too stretched out. This only became an issue when I switched to drop bars for a more comfortable commute, but I can't go back to flat bars.
Just something to keep in mind -- hopefully your fit will go better. ** To the point that some lycra warrior in High Park felt that he needed to tell me that I had too much seatpost showing -- I'm truly sorry that my comfort + proper fit doesn't match your "fistful of seatpost" aesthetic. well, i don't really see the visual ugliness of too much seat post... i think that roadie just had seat-post envy as u were clearly exposing more length than he ever could. With those slack angles, your seatpost would be moving back further from the bottom bracket but this could be corrected with moving the saddle a bit more forward on the post, no? This build is going to be a ghetto conglomerate of extreme proportions, as I just want it to be the single speed city crawler, but with all this top tube, i dont' think im ever going to reach the drops! I compared it to my fuji track, 73.5 degree STA/HTA, 54cm seat tube and 56cm top tube, and this is longer. My Bianchi brava has 53cm/53cm square frame geometry and by fluke the 11.5cm stem I put on there has me in the drops all day, although I may be too far forward on the bottom bracket to be efficiently producing power. Currently the nose of the saddle sits right over the bb, and this is the fit im trying to duplicate on the fuji and if possible, on the miele. Operator, I have witnessed you crank like you have the legs of an Olympian, how far back should nose of saddle be over the BB? Later this weekend I will bust out the camera and snap off the build play-by-play and post it up here. |
I think the saddle setback is usually found by aligning your knee over the pedal spindle when the arm is horizontal. The longer the femur, the further back the saddle.
Funny coincidence for some time I had been riding a bit forward over the BB. Just yesterday I pushed the saddle back (and lowered it a bit to keep the same leg extension). Can't say if I feel a difference yet. |
i find fore-aft to be really important and is now how i start fitting my bike, big difference in comfort and efficiency when that's done right

Hrm, will a 27" tire fit on a 700c rim? I think this Elite thing is a 27" rim...

Nope - B-17 Narrow (Antique Brown... Oiled, almost Black) - I actually passed the Turbo along to a good friend who found himself in need of a new saddle a couple of weeks ago. Bummer because I could use it now but I've got other stuff I can use and he didn't so whatever... |

So cool beans! I just found out my Miele is made of Columbus SL and was manufactured in 1990. T-Mar is a ridiculous resource.
|
What is tmar? Do you just plug in your serial number at a website somewhere? I've got a few miele frames I wouldn't mind carbon-dating...
|
T-Mar's a member here.. total wealth of knowledge when it comes to serial numbers and such!

Man, whoever said Yonge st. north of Eg. is awful a few pages back wasn't wrong... I used it to connect Broadway to Glencairn as I was heading home via Yorkdale, good grief it was horrible. Glencairn is lovely as always to ride across, though.. so that and my date made up for it ;)
Stopped by Lake Devo tonight but I guess DSR starts at 8 rather than 9 these days, so I bimbled home shortly after realising I wasn't going to see anyone. |
i don't think there was a DSR ride tonight, ryan has been sending out the times lately but is in costa rica

Dear used market guys,
My warranty replacement Devinci Tosca frame came in. I checked the geometry and it's still not the best fit for my no-torso/long-legged self so I'm going to sell it and put that money toward at Ridley. My question to you is what's a reasonable asking price? Brand new aluminum CX frame, hand-made in Quebec. Comes with a used carbon fork (aluminum steerer tube, disc brake tabs) and a used Ritchey Pro integrated headset. Please toss some numbers out that you think would be fair (for me and for potential buyers). Thanks! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3547/...d7540a7e_b.jpg |

Why does it come with a used fork eyefloater
|
... because Devinci didn't replace my fork when I broke my frame?

50% of retail for the original frameset. You got a couple of years out of that, right?

wow finding a used rear wheel legit is HARD in toronto.
went to the usual suspects: George (parts unknown) Mike (the bike) they both pointed to: Shannon (no zombies) and yah, no one wants to give up a round, non-damaged rear wheel. i guess they hang on to them and install them onto bikes to flip... no qualms there, i mean if that was my income, i would do that, too. |

Pyze, can I pick up those parts tomorrow after work maybe? Then I can swing by Cycle Solutions on the way home and get any other miscellaneous giblets that are required.
