It's a shame how so much debate occurs before individual bike lanes are created. This gives far too much time for hatred to ferment. They should just plan and debate a whole phase first, then go at it the following year to implement the plan wholesale. Most people will have forgotten the debate by then.

Secure bike parking is sorely needed as a part of every place of employment. None of this 'fire code' crap excuses. I am rather lucky, in that to steal my bike at work, you must drive past a guardhouse and ignore all the signs with pictures of M16's on them warning about an armed response to intruders - one they're deadly serious about.

 Well not everyone is lucky enough to work at the premier terror target in Canada.

Heh, that reminds me of the "Do you carry your gun on a ride?" thread from the Roadie forum. I love Americans but their culture is nuts.

Did you guys hear about that shop owner in Chinatown who chaseddown a shoplifter, tied him up and threw him into the back of a van? The owner was charged with kidnapping. I don't really have an opinion on the matter, but I will admit to smiling when I read the story and thought "that's old school justice"

Krusty, where do you work? I need some of those signs.

Yeah...I just have to hang in the pits and pull all the guys that get spit off the back. My limping Quasimodo ***** should be able to handle it.

trueno92 05-27-09 10:34 AM

i don't get the jarvis thing.

WTF happens in winter?

how they gonna plow that?

i don't want to be in the center lane, wipe out and spill onto traffic on my left AND right..

is this a seasonal operative or what?

exhibitx 05-27-09 10:40 AM

they are removing the center lane, and it would have regular bike lanes

trueno92 05-27-09 10:44 AM

oh okok.

wow with all the bike theft reports on craigslist recently, I want to draft up a few stickers that say "touch this bike and you will contract H1N1, SARS, AIDS, IMPOTENCE, ETC"

I think personal threats are the only solution...

TRaffic Jammer 05-27-09 11:02 AM

The lanes will be off to the sides as per normal..I thought it was a middle road thing as well. This will however ensure a massive kerfeckery in the Jarvis-redux project time span. Widening sidewalks, adding the lanes, tress, redoing the entirety of Jarvis' lines...repaving?

I was thinking maybe we could just keep bike week on the dl next year?

exhibitx 05-27-09 11:48 AM

they should just fix the bike lanes on sherbourne

they already spent the money to install those, it's only one major street over, and they are in miserable shape

kergin 05-27-09 12:26 PM

I hope they ninja some bike lanes onto Bloor while wrapping up the construction. Just spray them down - don't mention it to no one.

just as a headsup to the TO thread:

my single speed is complete, and thanks to all that contributed to its budget-constrained greatness.

it will join me, wife and dog on the 29km Niagara Falls loop, this coming weekend!

if anyone has been on any of the Niagara trails, pls chime in as there is no mention of difficulty range on any of the sites I have looked at.

+1!!! I don't think I have any fillings anymore after having ride down Sherbourne all the time.

elTwitcho 05-27-09 02:24 PM

I ride down Jarvis every day and take the entire right lane, never had an issue. I don't know why everything has to be such a battle all the time man, I don't even see much use for bike lanes and now we've got drivers being hostile over some crap I never wanted in the first place.

Also I'm boycotting the Star after this war on cars bull****. I've been honked at maybe three times in the past six months, haven't flipped the bird a single time and now suddenly I'm at war? When the **** did that happen?

TRaffic Jammer 05-27-09 02:27 PM

seriously... I've sent the reporter an email regarding the creation of hostilities on the road this week

East Hill 05-27-09 04:54 PM

Don't panic!
