Sweet! Also, other than Bowler Mountain, do you know any currently decent singletrack around the Sarnia/London/Southwesty Ontario area? I'm heading home in the next couple of weekends and wouldn't mind doing a bit of riding while I'm there.

I will consult my "Rider Mel Ontario Mountain Bike Directory" and get back to ya. I know there is some sweet riding out that way.

jer, I'd love to take a couple off your hands - when/where can I be? I'm out of town Thursday for the weekend, but I'm in the Parkdale 'hood tomorrow night/Thurs morning. Thanks!
Thanks Pyze, I finally made it
Seemed like an epic journey home, partially (ok, mostly) idiot error missing the train twice and getting the flat at Kingston Rd/Military Trail didn't help - barring the 6 miles I did take the train for (Guildwood->Danforth), it worked out for a nice bit of unplanned riding.
Bonus learning experience of the day: I can change a rear flat without needing to touch my fenders (so ducking glad about that )

by the way guys (and girls) - as you may know, i'm in the process of packing/moving and i'm trying to clear out some cycling stuff. i went through my closet today for the usual spring cleaning and goodwill donation gathering and i realized i have a pile of jerseys and caps that i'm never going to use. i'd rather they get used for their intended purpose so if anyone wants to take a jersey or two off my hands for nada please let me know. most will fit a tall skinny guy (mediums/larges) and are short sleeved. for instance i have an protour lotto-adecco jersey, some castellis, nalinis and at least one pair of brand new dickes double knee pants (good for rolling up or cutting off for knickers). shout if you're interested.
I'm interested. I'll also grab those wheels if you still have them. Are you home in the am? I have the car tomorrow and can swing by and grab some stuff.

Today I woke up to an aching and practically seized left wrist. Time to re-evaluate my bar grips/setup on the Jamis, apparently. In the meantime, R.I.C.E. treatment, here I come.

Holy crap, man. Is it just a case of leaning forward with a high saddle?

Ugh, that sucks. Do you remember thwacking it or anything during the ride? Are your brake levers angled properly? You don't have an aggressive saddle-to-bar drop or anything (they're pretty well level IIRC), so I'm kind of surprised.

Ya, it's always been an issue. I can't remember ever doing a ride on a mountain bike where I didn't feel something in my wrists afterward. It seems to be mostly an issue of back-sweep (my wrists just don't like to take hits when they're angled in at all). I'll adjust the bars so that the sweep is effectively maximized, but if that doesn't solve things I'll probably just switch to some bars with an 11 degree sweep or so (current bar is apparently 8 an degree).

mike:
1. when i had trouble with my wrist last year i realised it stemmed from muscles in my forearm/i-forget-the-name-of-the-muscle-on-the-upper-arm-behind-the-elbow. after the immediate "rice" care some accupuncture/massage/stretching of those areas really helped my wrist.
2. apparently it's been so long since i rode my mtb it has started being parted out! no cassette = no riding! but it looks like keith saves the day. maybe if there's a potential riding partner in the works it'll be an incentive me to get out there.

Ah. Yeah, that actually bothers me a little too. Not enough sweep coupled with a wide bar == awkward bend at wrist. I've been tempted to try out the Misfit FU Bar or the On-One Mary bar for that reason.

I really like the FU bar, too bad I cut it too short. I agree on the need for sweep in the bar, my arms and wrists are less sore this year with the new bars.

Lance also has that wood Naked Cycles Fixed Gear he got last year. Apparently it's the first bike he's had to pay for in the last twenty years.

I saw the guy riding the Yeti in the O-cup pics (who I now know is Pary thanks to Facebook/Wil ) this morning having an incident with an idiot driver - it never ceases! Heh.
Tube poking through tyre = insta-flat at high pressure = take road bike to work via GO train.
Too much stupid skidding on a thin road tyre my downfall is. It gave me 745 miles of service, it'll work still with a small boot in there to tide it over - hell, it worked for me last night on hand-pump pressure (60psi max?). I'll probably boot it and rotate and thrash the crap out of it some weekend, as it's flat spotted anyways (glad I got those Vredesteins on a mega sale )
