ps. operator: I want to try on your next time I see you. I emailed UTW about getting a custom bag made today, but I'd like to try yours on for size (since it's already broken in) first.
A $10 try-on fee applies

p.s you're showing for CM tomorrow yeah?

Not sure if I am yet. It's my last day at my current job, so I might just be out celebrating someplace. But at the same time, it feels like after last week's deaths, CM is fairly important this month.

So good meeting Steeker at the memorium ride. I've never seen so many cops in one place without doughnuts (although Tim Hortons was just down the road). Special Response van was pretty neat.

A crappy place to die and a sad place to be to pay respects to a sister.

So what things should I look for in a bag and any tips, good brands?

You could get a good deal on a push bag no?
pac or utw look nice & functional local as well.
Cheers

PAC = bulletproof and $$$
UTW = I have the Messential and it's a nice bag with a single metal bearclaw instead of the plastic clips that Push uses. Sam sewed in a seatbelt buckle from a car I killed sort of a la chrome - an addition I like a lot. They also sewed up an external pump bag that I used when I had an overlong pump. I like the metal claw buckle and simple layout. Try a few on for fit. My criteria is bomb proof and simple. I don't need a bazillion pockets etc. because I just use mine for commuting - stuff in, stuff out. It's also very easy to carry oversize loads.
I looked at the Push stuff (and I own one of their hip pouches) but the use of plastic buckles put me off

Try a few on. Try putting stuff in it to see how it fits. See how easy it is to get on or off, particularly with a load in it. The downside to UTW is that the main strap doesn't quick release. If you're taking your bag on and off a lot, it may be a PITA.

A love hole port would be a good one to ask for. Other wise think the three companies have it covered. Shop around.
Did I mention I can fit 24 beer in my push metro.
LOL
Cheers

Nice meeting you too cavit8 ( told ya I forget names fast:p )sad moment up there horrible place to die and way to go keeping your cool with that d*ckhead out side I would'nt have been so nice, and that little lady cop with the attitude was a turd.. BUT hey you took off wayyyyyy to fast you should have stayed with us we went down these quiet wild hilly streets all the way to Bloor going over 50K on one of them total blast

eyefloater 04-27-06 09:58 PM

I'll be out, in fact I might be there w/ some people from work (seems we might be shutting down the shop a bit early so we can all get there in time). After what happened a week ago, this feels like a significant month to participate in CM.

STEEKER 04-27-06 10:02 PM

Well if my back let's me I'll be at Critical Mass too, I think this will be a Good one too but I have a feeling the cops will be nasty maybe not just a feeling

eyefloater 04-27-06 10:31 PM

I kind of doubt cops will try to shut down CM this month. If they has their collective head on straight hopefully they'll let some cyclists go out and remind drivers that there're more than just cars on the road. Ooor, maybe it'll be like NYC and we'll all get busted for particpating in an illegal parade w/ no permit. ;)

Edit: got my spell on.

Warning heeded. I'm bringing my bell.

Yeah I was a little cold and needed to stoke a bit after the memorial. All you guys are on coasters. 50k on a fixie = feet off the pedals for me. :D I got going fast enough in a couple of spots as it was.

Re: Dickhead; I got to wondering after the fact if he was a truck driver. It never ceases to amaze me how cagers stick together. If someone dies it's obviously the fault of the pedestrian/cyclist whatever. "Oh she was a well known troubled teen, they'll be checking for drugs in the autopsy". Sure, it makes obvious sense that someone with a "chequered" past is at fault, regardless. res ipsa loquitur. Surely they wouldn't have to give the driver a blood test, check his log book or see if he's keeping more than one so he can keep driving while nodding at the wheel. I'm glad lady-cop hassled Rick instead of me. I thought she was kinda hot so I probably would have ended up being cuffed over the hood of the car after making some innuendo comment about her flak vest.

I'm not sure if I'll make it to CM, but I'll give it a go.

I did'nt say the cops would shut tonights ride down:p

STEEKER 04-28-06 08:41 AM

The girl that was there said witnesses said the rider had the right of way on the green light and the truck was at fault I will find the link but as we all KNOW the cops will not charge the driver

gokiburi 04-28-06 08:54 AM

this is an important CM to make it to but i lament the early start times for all us (later)working stiffs. :(

i hope you have padding in your bag when you're riding home from the beer store. i was returning two 12s in my zo(no padding.. would a bike pump be considered as padding??) and damn was it digging into my spine. good thing i had a short way to go with the two 12packs i bought!!

Shiznaz 04-28-06 09:43 AM

You should have seen me returning a keg in my big UTW bag. That was a scene!
