Heading south was a tad chilly tonight (wind and my choice of clothing), but seemed like a beautiful day nonetheless, more sun = more fun!

 serious bidnezz!

Damn, why did I think it was held during the day? I might not make it and I am halfway done on one tire!

Anyone have any stupidly high volume 700c/29er slicks/semi-slicks - Schwalbe Big Apples, etc.? I'm looking for a set of loaner tires to use for the rubber race this weekend.

elTwitcho 02-18-09 09:29 PM

Rubber Race?

And FWIW, it doesn't look like the city is planning for all this rain to be frozen tommorow, as it looks like the salt trucks still aren't out. Tomorrow I can finally feel good about hauling around the extra resistance of these dumbass studded tires :)

exhibitx 02-18-09 09:34 PM

rubber race = the ice race without the studs

last year they did it after the finals

shapelike 02-18-09 10:14 PM

I'm hoping for the most surface area I can find with about 15 PSI in the tires ...

The retention bars look in pretty good shape. If someone wants a bombproof clipless pedal with VERY secure retention, for fixie use, buy these immediately. I already have 3 sets or I would jump on em.

I_bRAD 02-19-09 10:14 AM

I might pick those up and see what all the fuss is about!

Keith- do you need special tools to rebuild those ones?

TRaffic Jammer 02-19-09 10:35 AM

Once you go ATAC..... you know..
Keith, thanks again, see you after 5 this eve.

i've been off the bike for more than a week now due to crazy work schedule / ailing wife but i managed to sneak into sweet pete's today for a minute and they had this on display which i have to say i find a very impressive build for an off the rack city bike. if i had the cash to spare i'd buy one:

There are 2 different configs in that generation. One uses a big circlip to hold the inbound bearing and axle in...the later gen uses a threaded sleeve on the outside of the pedal body. The threaded sleeve technically uses a very small pin spanner...I have always just clamped 2 awls in a vise at the correct distance to unscrew em...it has always worked just fine. One large cartridge on the inbound side...one veeeery long large roller bearing on the outbound. I have only had to replace the cartridge bearings once in the 10+ years I have been using em....very well sealed....otherwise a bi-annual greasing up of the roller and cart is all they have ever needed. BEST. PEDAL. EVAR!

Had a weird ride home last night, left at around 10:15 from DVP/Eglinton area, which had amassed a good 3-4 inches of the fluffy stuff on the ground. I was prepped for a long, careful ride home... but the further I went west, the less and less snow seemed to be around - when I got onto College heading west, it was pretty much clear after Beverley with maybe 1/4" or 1/2" on the sidewalks... Bizarre difference.

Made my shovelling much less intense than I'd thought, so that was cool :D

Rides this weekend morning?

exhibitx 02-20-09 07:27 PM

i don't think he was even wearing short-shorts, it was a speedo

it wasn't pretty either way

kergin 02-20-09 07:52 PM

Well, I suffered a Crank Brothers failure tonight while heading down King St. At the light of Bay & King, I go to clip in and it feels funny... but I keep going until I looked down and saw the pedal body half-way off the axle. How the ****?

http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/7035/img0838.th.jpg

Also, these pedals are less than six months old. That's what it takes to kill these pieces of crap: less than six months and a Toronto winter.

Ya, there's something to be said for the seals in those things. LOL, still want to buy my blown up pair of Eggbeaters with the same problem? ;)
