WTG Ill mitch and Kaibot!!! Yea Booooiiiiizzzz!! That's a hell of a ride.

Kaibot 06-25-06 07:56 PM

Mitch and I did pretty well on the hairshirt.

Mitch and I came there with a group of guys but I ended up dropping them all for a while.

There were probably about 35 riders this year.

We all were riding together as a pack for the first while, except for about 5 riders who went full tilt right away.

As the ride went on people were getting dropped, mostly on the climbs, which were pretty tiny, but we still had a nice pack going.

A second break away happened and I just let it be for a while until I wanted to go faster and went alone to try and catch it.

I caught up, but it was only a few minutes before the group joined back together, about 10 people.

I was setting the pace for a long time, some guys could only hold the front for a minute or two, but I was up there for ever and didn't get very tired at all.

After a bit I'd drop back and let another guy lead but then the pack started slowing down, so I'd wait a few minutes and go back you the front.

I just felt really good today, legs didn't feel like they were ever gonna cramp.

My shoulders and neck started hurting after a while but that was just because of how I was sitting, my knees are feeling a bit sore now and I have a nice sunburn.

For the last 120km or so Mitch and I ended joining up and were riding with three other guys, who we finished with.

We were the second pack to finish, I am not exactly sure when the leaders finished, but we caught up to them a few times towards the end so they must not have finished to much earlier.

Took us 11hours and 40minutes, I was happy. Averaged about 30km/h with stops

The wind was brutal, especially on the way back.

I'm coming to Toronto and would appreciate some help/advice...

I'd been riding fixed in NYC for years and just about a month ago I had to sell my bike for cash as I relocated to SF, but in about two months I'll be moving to Toronto. Once there I wanna build up a bike (I've still got my wheels, but thats it), and I need advice as to where I can buy a frame in the city. Or, if there aren't many places, please let me know so I can get something here in SF, where i know I can (although I'm assuming frames are more expensive in SF than TO).

So...all you kids who make up this ridiculously long sticky Toronto thread, please show me some love and give me the inside scoop on the Toronto fixed scene. And hell, if anyone is sellin' I'm looking to buy!

Rather than getting into any c-c or c-t type o' confusion, I'll just tell you, I'm 5'10" and like so many others, looking for a decent lugged steal frame. I don't have the money for a new Cinelli or anything like that though. think a step down from there. A used De Bernardi, an old Madison Track, etc. etc.

Thanks! and I maybe we'll pass each other on the streets in a couple months!

Oh, and PS...since this thread is so damn long, if anyone does have anything to sell, or a good lbs to recommend, please send me a private message or email me at:

greg.nylund@gmail.com

PPS. I'm also looking for an apartment too if you know of any!

Nice used track framesets are getting harder and harder to find. Shops with new stuff here are fairly plentiful. Expect to pay in the $350 CAD range for a decent frameset. As for apartments...try viewit.ca. They have skads of apartments available but it helps to know what area of the city you want to locate in. This city is pretty large in area. On a good note it is a renters market at the moment so there are some pretty good deals out there if you look araound.

Definitely let us know and we can help suggest areas if you're not familiar with the city. You'll want to get on this now as in two months, the University students will be back which can glut some areas of town. Viewit is great although some areas that look like great deals aren't because they're in an armpit area or are at a 24 hr streetcar junction. If you're primary mode is bike, some areas are much better serviced by bike lanes etc. Craigslist is also helpful. I found my place, a two bedroom for $680 +hydro on Craigslist :D

jeremywhitehorn 06-26-06 08:16 AM

nice work on the hairshirt kaiser boys! in know how hard that ride can be in the wind, especially on the way back as it's blowing off the lake. it looks like the field was fairly close together, time-wise. nice to see that the fastest time went to a lady.

maybe i'll ride it again next year. anyone know the lone fixie rider? i seem to remember emailing him through the FGG about something...

STEEKER 06-26-06 08:41 AM

13hour on the Fix, I would like to know what gear set up he was running and bar set up

TRaffic Jammer 06-26-06 09:09 AM

and what kinda butter he was using

jeremywhitehorn 06-26-06 09:13 AM

i stand by my assertion that long rides on a fix are no worse for you than long rides on a geared bike (provided it's set up right)...

Man that's a looooong flippin' ride. I just to know what he put on his toast......

Anyone see those Nike shoes on sale at Dukes' from 229 to 99buckos?
End of line no sizes, too ugly to own, or a crappy shoe? Spraypaint MIGHT help.
