Thanks. Wheels I have plenty of somehow, 7 right now and only 1 bike. Fixed hub and crank are all I really have to get. Everything else I have on the bike and of my own to swap in otherwise. Send me a PM so I know who to ask for when I finally make it down there in a week or two. And drops, would like them, but just being greedy now as I have 2 bars lying in storage.

Hey Rob, when you ordered from probikekit did canada post end up delivering it? I'm making an order and can't decide whether I want to pay the UK V.A.T. (18%) and send it to my parents in france, or just get them to send it to me tax free and risk paying import duties. My mum is visiting in early august so I would get them pretty fast.

I got a crank and BB from them a couple weeks ago. Shipping was quick, and I paid no duty. Can't remember who the carrier was though.

Shiznaz 07-25-06 03:08 PM

hmmm... what kind of cranks/bb? my order is around 250 bucks (sidi shoes/look pedals) so I don't want to get hosed...

operator 07-25-06 04:34 PM

You may get owned on the Sidi shoes because it's clothing (one guy did on the road cycling forum). Look pedals probably not. Usually it's custom free stuff that you're ordering (clothes/shoes/bibs/jerseys) excepted I think. But otherwise if they DO decide to tax you on the value of the order it becomes 14% + flat rate $5 brokerage.

Out of the 6 times i've ordered stuff, only got taxed + brokerage. once. PBK ships it with minimal packaging for your items and they declare gift but declare full value of items. Maybe seperate order the Sidis and have them sent to your parents in France and the rest shipped to Toronto.

Another trick is to place several smaller orders rather than one large one at once. Reduces the likelihood of it getting slapped with the "collect tax" sticker.

Let me check the packaging from PBK to see who delivered it, it's at home.

Hi all,

Does anyone here have an extra 700c rear wheel, free or fixed, I can borrow/rent until my replacement parts for my hub and wheel come in?

I have some candy... or beer... :)

You can get sidi's here in town no? Or are they the super fantastic not available in Canada ones? Is the price just that much better?

Sidi Genius 5 mega's are around 230 CAD. MEC has em for $15 more then you pay tax on top. Not a bad deal unless you get stroked on duty + GST. Ronin, check with traffic jammer. I just sold him an MA3 SS wheel.
He may let you borrow it for beer.

Local: Sidi Genius Cycling Shoes (Men's) $261.00 CAD

vs:

PBK: Sidi Genius 5 Steel/Black/Blue $177.79 CAD

Shipped prices. Of course teh net order might get pwnz0red by customs/tax/brokerage. f34r 7h3 !n73rn37. The Look Keo graphite pedals used to be $45 same as the 105 level SPD-SL's shipped but they changed supplier and the Look's got owned up to $60 something :/

In other news cavernmech has hooked me up with frame repair dealz! Should be ready to go in 3 ish weeks. Word.

Note: beer coming soon as well

sweep242 07-25-06 08:43 PM

I don’t find this very reasonable a little pricey i think.

By no rise do you mean zero degree or negative? How short? i might have something
Oh yeah....is it for flat bar or road bar?

I think it may be the luck of the draw. Most of the time my orders come through with no charges. I bought a Campy Centaur crank and BB (~$150), to replace the FSA external BB piece of crap on my cross bike.

I'll check my parts stash. If I have one, it's yours. How short do you need?

TRaffic Jammer 07-26-06 06:54 AM

I'm not going there. It's just too damned easy. 32flavs, that's a sweet ride. How was out west?

Shiznaz 07-26-06 07:18 AM

hmmm... I guess I will just order them to here. Will they slap me with taxes PLUS duty? I thought they were the same thing.... if its 14% + 5$ brokerage that will be less than the 17% VAT I will be paying to get them sent to france. I also don't want to do seperate orders because I get 10% of the shoes and pedals if they are ordered together. Makes life easier on my mum too.

Shiznaz 07-26-06 07:21 AM

32, I've got an old nitto I-beam style stem thats pretty short and has no rise. It may be really hard to get the bars out though as I shoved ourys way up on them a few years ago and haven't moved them since. You're welcome to the stem and (incredibly narrow flop and chop) bars though if you want. I've kind of damaged the screw a little on the top too but as long as you use a proper spanner or socket wrench (not a huge adjustable pipe wrench like me) you should be fine.

Duty is based on the Country of origin and the materials the item is made from. Tax is tax....duty is totally different.

Anybody want an old Raleigh Record bike for a conversion? Looks to be about 56cm. It was getting tossed at Sandy's Cycle on Laird and I threw a lock on it going by this morning. It's your typical Raleigh, cottered cranks etc. etc. but the frame is certainly fixable :D

That's a cool vintage stem.

Sounds like operator should come pick it up

Shiznaz 07-26-06 08:44 AM

I had to retire my old Japanese steed after it nearly killed me a few times. Now its sitting in the shed stripped of everything except rack, headset, stem and bars. Kind of sad.... But its spirit still lives on and someone may as well be riding on the stem because I've put it thought too much to really be considered 'vintage' anymore... its just old.

Back to customs/duties: So I'll be paying 14% gst/pst + $5 brokerage + ?% duties IF I'm charged anything at all?

32flavours 07-26-06 11:00 AM

Thanks for the offers, everyone. Shiznaz, PMing you.

Happy hump day!
