oh man, I got completely crushed by my midterms which means I gotta study harder.

My biking goal is to ride through the winter on the gt.
I checked and I def. don't have enough clearance to put on some knobbies.

anyone have experience on riding throughout winter on road slicks?

toronto streets aren't too bad, mostly just slush so thin tires cut through the nasty stuff. if you can fit 700 x 27 or 28 then vittoria makes a cross tire that's a knobby that works well in the winter.

Good ****ing game. I get home and THEN shiznaz tells me there's delays from GO. I almost had a free trip to Georgetown instead of home. Luckily I was drunk enough to ask the lady next to me where the **** this train was going before the doors closed.

I also got sidewswiped going across Front st. by some asshat in some motor vehicle. Luckily I was not hurt, hopefully I scratched the hell out of their 2 doors and broke their side mirror.

The guy with the blond hair and glasses, wearing a blue Campagnolo cap in one pic is Tristan, he works at Urbane. Super nice guy. He's helped me with lots of stuff, especially when I was a total noob asking lots of annoying questions. The other guys don't really look familiar to me.

Yeah I guess its more manly to just not compete and make excuses for it.

Does anyone make polished silver box style rims anymore? Why isn't anyone into shiny things these days? I want shiny rims to match my shiny seat post, bars, stem, spokes, hubs, toe clips etc. I like shiny things dammit. Did I mention I like shiny things?

I just scored a nice vintage bike on eBay and it is coming up from the States, which courier should I ask the seller to use? I've heard that UPS charges bursary fees and that they should be avoided, anybody have experience in this area? Thanks.

Use USPS

I rode all last winter on those Vittorio 20s that were cheap a little while ago at Urbane but it was a pretty mild winter last year.

Yeah? For a package that big? I've already asked the seller if it will work but he has yet to get back to me. It would be great if USPS would work, I've had a lot of luck with them in the past.

UPS is a pain in the a$$. i've had them tell me that they won't do bike boxes because they're too big, they'll only deliver if you're home, expensive, etc. I've had several frames shipped USPS, no problems to speak of. much cheaper too.

box rims seem to have gone the way of the dinosaur. i have a rear wheel built around a "ukai" rim, shiny box section and all. not sure if they're made anymore but try seaching some out on ebay.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. Actually, imagine bike wheels with those stupid spinny things that spin even when the wheel isn't. ugh.

Hey Shiznaz, I saw those helmet pics (amazing) and I think I know you from U of T. Are you the one they call "Charlie"? If so I know you through Will.

As a side note I swear to god the other day I saw a guy wearing that exact helmet and I didn't detect any irony!!! I swear!

Cool! Do you have any pics of said rim? Sounds tasty. Yeah I don't get it. I mean it's crazy that no one seems to make 'em. They're just so classic. And the thing is, with all this NJS stuff flying around, its surprising to me that no one really bothers with the box rims, because that's what the Keirin guys ride. Okay they ride tubulars, but still I find it surprising that there isn't more interest in that style of rim.

U.S.P.S. best bet I think? But ask for a higher level to get a tracking # maybe.

My recent experience with UPS sucks. Their depot is also out in Concord, so if you miss the home delivery action, you're in for a trek to get your package. FedEx and Purolator are around Carlaw and the Lakeshore.

I've had issues with all. I can't remmber who shipped my frame, but it may even have been USPS. Check into package sizes on the various sites to see who gives you the best options.

Yeah, I hope the seller is able to go wtih USPS, I've been dinged with customs through UPS before. I've tried the gift thing too, it is hit or miss.

The bike should be pretty nice, it appears to be a poorly worded auction and the seller didn't know what he had. If I am right, it is a nice Spanish company that made custom frames and the tubing is Columbus SLX; if I am wrong, it looks really nice and will be a good ride for a friend of mine. We shall see.

Will and I were roomies in first year res. I almost got evicted!

Mavic, Sun and DRC all still make box section rims, and I am sure there are more. I am uncertain who still makes a polished silver tho. Recently the Mavic MA2 was polished but was discontinued a few years back. Sun makes a few polished rims but they are all aero style. E-bay is prolly yer best bet. If you want tubulars, polished silver rims are a dime a dozen.
