You will pay a bit more in the end but get a bike that is more tailor made for yourself. Worth the extra few $ IMHO.
Good point. Always nice to spend a quiet evening building a set of wheels. Besides, I have lots of parts kicking around, stem, bar, cranks....etc. I guess I'll give it a couple of days to see if my bike magically turns up somewhere, but I'm not holding my breath. How long are we talking to get a frame? Weeks? Months?

Usually a week from order date. Tony is closing down for the month of Oct.
I want to just go riding around on the hunt...U-lock and cel at the ready.

I almost had a freak out yesterday when I had to leave my wheels freelocked in kensington. I actually had to leave a optimal situation to move and relock it somewhere before I could relax. With the student crowd back the market for cheap bikes is rich again and the crackheads and those who take the bikes from them know it. I would be very careful until the cold weather starts to hit about locking up.

Do you have a pic of the stolen Jamie Roy? I see a lot of IROs around lately and would hate to bug-out on the wrong guy, plus I have a hard time telling all of the different IROs apart even though a white one is rare.

Did they just cut through the cable? If it was at the YMCA there, don't they have cameras?

This is all I could find. I had it locked in front of a friends apartment, so no cameras. Could have happened any time between 10 pm and 8 am

Ha ha....that guy better watch out. I would *love* to see someone riding it while I had wheels....I'm picturing the bullit car chase scene only with fixed gear bikes.

Actually.. I doubt bike theft is as bad in Parkdale as it is closer to U of T.

Not much better, but it's a shot with you in it for the shoebox of memories..

(and with The Beater the day you picked it up at Cavern )

edit: in fact, that's quite the history there.. none of you are riding the bikes in that pic anymore. Just my lonely Urbanite.. I hope I'm not jinxed now!

Yeah, the vagrants in Parkdale aren't very organized and if they ever had bolt-cutters, they would have been sold ages ago for crack. Also, the bikes in Parkdale are usually crappy and not worth the effort.

keep in mind that this is the crazy hectic blowout sale, not the big fancy trade show affair.. so, probably not your best bet for "window shopping".

I was riding through Kensignton and some messenger guy came up and told me to keep an eye out for that silver Bianchi. You guys are giving me second doubts about locking my bike up on campus.

/sad

I'll keep an eye out for your Iro darkmother but the chances of me seeing anything are next to nil. I was just thinking how awesome it would be to lay the beatdown on some theives after a sting operation. Read: bikes with gps/rfid tags on it.

Well if it makes you be extra careful, when I was a messenger full of badassedness we referred to McGill University as the shopping mall. I'll bet there is someone thinking of UoT in the same vien. Lock it up like a drum if it's gonna be out for awhile. I used to go so far as to fill in my allen key holes with solder. Courier type bikes don't start vanishing in singles, there will be a rash, mark my words.

yeah man.. I wouldn't lock up outside on campus if you can help it, unfortunately. I've heard that there's an indoor lockup at Mclennan.. time to make buddybuddy with some physics nrrds. If my bike got picked at in the middle of the day during the Summer, I can only imagine what it's like during the Fall/Winter/Spring.

I was thinking about putting a ball bearing or like you said - soldering the allen key holes. But it would be immensely annoying to adjust anything.

These tinfoil hats are quite difficult to construct. Anyone got pdf instructions?

I know that full well, but thats what I end up doing anyways (OOH!! ANOTHER GIANT HYBRID AND SOME KIND OF SUPER EXPENSIVE CANNONDALE NOBODY WANTS TO BUY!!) until I start to feel claustrophobic and have to leave. Last time I went my friend shoplifted a crappy MTB chain because the line up for that vendor was so crazy that it simply wasn't worth the time waiting. The chain ended up being ridiculously short and not even long enough to use single speed mode. I keep wanting to go there when I need a bike as there are often some sweet deals on completes, but yet again I am bike-ful.
