It was a fun ride to work. Fun trying to break through the crust. Made me wish I put the knobbies on. See how it is tonight before I switch for ther snow ride. |
my back is out, sooo the red rocket is my transport

sloowww going in this muck. Luckily the cars were pretty polite on the whole. Kinda wish I still had gears on the smoke because I have 'the need for speed'
Its probably best it maxes out at around 25km/h though as I probably shouldn't be riding in snow too fast anyways. |
Little help: is the ride tonight an off-road ride? I ask b/c I've only got my Pista with slicks on. Riding in the snow (with pavement) I can do, but straight-up trails I cannot.
If you guys tell me where you plan to go, it will help me decide. If you do the Spit I'll have to pass :( |
My wife isn't feeling well so I haven't gotten to ride yet. Nice ball bearing icy substitution for snow, mega-slushy. Hopin' on a snow ride. Hey, if you cats are hitting the spit and I practically live there, I'd be able to just meet up with the ride when it's east. Timmy's just before the spit? I could wait for you lot to cruise by....

Ya, I walked out on the back porch this morning and wondered what the hell excuse for snow that granular **** was. Snow FLAKES, people ... come on ... let's make it happen.
Edit: To echo an earlier comment, are we riding on/offroad tonight? I can leave the slicks on or switch to zee Mud 2s. |
Yes, a crusty ride in this morning. And all the fools parked off the curb on McCaul forcing me over to the street car tracks... grrrrrr... I definitely need to gear lower for a winter ride though. I may have been too tentative with the speed, but I found it a bit of slog especially on the rutty crusty bits. I'm out for the snow ride tonight: too much work to do.

I was riding down shaw and my tires were acting all squirrelly and I realized it was because I was riding directly over the streetcar track from between queen and and just north of king. I'm glad I built this bike up now becaus it would have been a little rough with my track bike commuter that I can't put bigger tires than 23c on. I definitely need to upgrade my winter bike to clipless though. Mashing flat pedals in a low gear just sucks compared to spinning.

Fresh laneways are the best for snow riding, whenever we get some actual snow that is. It drifts nicely in tight laneways & the lack of traffic helps.

Just got in to class. What a ride that was. I thought that my gearing might be a little low, but it's a tad high if anything for the thick stuff. Interesting ride though. Brunswick Ave. was clean snow, but the front wheel was all over the place. Bloor was disgustingly slushy, but easy to cut through. You just can't win. I think I might have to buy some shoe covers for tonight. And some head/face gear.
Yesterday I already picked up some lobster claw gloves, and a pair of clear lens sunglasses. I'm ready for it! |

I'm going to try and make it out to the ride 'n slide tonight so maybe we can talk then. I may be the one in the red cape. We'll see how the day goes. Man that ride in was great. But I'm glad I switched out to the Stumpy just before I left. The drivers on King in parkdale this morn were totally not giving any room and actually almost driving against the curb which put me in the deep stuff. |
Sorry I missed the beer ride, we all got called back in over the Tsunami threat on Friday. Nasty weather this morning props to all who rode, it was too crazy for my 23c liking. If there is a trip to london, even if I just get to do track 1 over I'd be down with going if there is room in the car...

I'll be there tonight, barring two broken legs and a miscarriage.
Too soon? Edit: Yay, new avatar for winter riding. |

mmmm... I decided to treat myself and go for a proper lunch today. I tried out Le Petit Dejeuner at King and Frederick and I was very impressed. Great atmosphere, fun music, delicious food at incredible prices (best soup and sandwich I've had for ages for $6.50). Big window, funky booths and tasty espresso made with lever operated copper machine rounded out the experience. I got some 'belgian fries' to see how belgian they were. I'm confident to call these ones 'frites', as they are the real deal. I'm gonna go to this place at least once a week now.
The waiter was a really nice guy too. |
Did they serve the 'frites' with real, honest-to-god, mayo?
|
/homer
mmmm, frites |

Home made mayo? oooh my wife will be totally down for that.
|
This anyone we know?
http://www.thestar.com/images/assets/177257_3.JPG Good to know, I'm always down for good frites with mayo. |
Pretty messy out there but yeah, most of the drivers were pretty polite about things and no horns were leaned on, at least not at me. I rode my SS with the fenders and without the pedal-straps, just to be super-safe in case I had to disembark quickly, y'know?
Fun ride, not too slow and I passed only 2 streetcars from Roncesvalles down to Jarvis....usually I pass 4 or 5, so the whole city must be moving much slower today. |
