Saw a dude running a coaster brake on a track frame yesterday. It had bmx risers mounted upside down so the only riding position he had was extreme aero (his hands were almost level with the top of his wheels) and he hopped on college, did a mad dash sprint from Spadina to Kensington, then got off his bike...

Weird ass bike setup. Looked clean but riding it had to suck

aaronu 09-01-08 02:01 PM

i would think the riding position that forces would make it hard to use a coaster brake very effectively. countdown to that rider losing all of his teeth. . .

jeremywhitehorn 09-01-08 02:38 PM

well i'm not working tomorrow but i don't have a mountain bike.

for the first time in a while i went to the cottage without a bike - went fishing instead and caught a bass, which was more of a thrill than i expected. i wish there was a place to fish in toronto...

Lots of places to fish in T.O.

I_bRAD 09-01-08 03:36 PM

Yeah, lots of places to fish in Toronto, but you can't eat any of it so it's kind of a moot point.

Didn't spot myself in there though.. :)

I had an amazing ride today. Set out NW at noon, then went all out and ended up doing about 110km through Caledon East and back in 78GI on the Capo. On the way back down Mountainview Rd. I drafted a friendly roadie riding some sick GT. Would have done this ride on the road bike - alas, it's in the shop.

Midweek club goes to the velodrome: http://midweekclub.ca/index.php/midw...-to-the-track/

Nice opportunity for those who haven't made it out there yet.. especially those without cars.

^^ damn, no cash for tarck rentals.

I have successfully moved! Hooray! And I used the Miele in full touring mode (with her shiny new brooks) for a token run of 70 pounds of assorted crap. She handles like a dream even when shes fully loaded. Kergin, you still rock.

So in serendipitous news, the new apartment comes with deck, kitchen, a big living space, and a rusted and cobwebbed but salvageable Raleigh road bike, with upright bars, vinyl brooks, and SA Dynohub front, 3speed back. All completely original, with a vinyl brooks saddle bag even, in that fugly Raleigh green. Ah I love this weekend, the karma train is going at full speed.

And Stuart, good on you! Date two should be fun ;). Id join you in the Don, but I decided to let my wrists heal and have put the trail bike in storage for the time being. I didnt feel like moving with it and it has more issues than my girlfriend. (snap!)

~Stuart~ 09-01-08 10:30 PM

isnt your bike a SS?

SS never give anyone trouble didn't'cha'know? BAHAHAHAHAHA *goes to check headset on bike*

kylehutton 09-01-08 10:51 PM

well, today has sucked.

flight from venice to atlanta, and supposed to have a connection from atlanta to toronto.
the flight from venice, just as we're about to take off, after being delayed an hour, is pulled back in to have a repair on a valve for the a/c. it was supposed to take 15 minutes, but 4 hours later we ended up moving. because fo the repair, they had to fly lower and slower than usual.

long story short, i boarded the plane at 7:15am our time, and got off the plane at 11pm our time.
now have a comp hotel room and the connection is not until tomorrow morning.

cant wait for this weeks dsr ride.

Not to mention eating a great combination of crappy (in the good, greasy way) fast-food/mexican and snooty food (both at the Palace Hotel in SF and Azzurro in Napa)... meeting amazing people (both web nerds at the conference early in the week, and bike nerds at SSWCs)... and just the joy of travelling to new places.

Not sure if I've mentioned this already, but the SSWCs are going to be in Durango next year. I'm going to keep on you guys to try and get a good Toronto representation there next year. Everyone who doesn't already have a mtb, get one!

ps. come ride bikes and/or drink coffee with me sometime, damn you!

Vintage Bianchi Celeste Road Bike - $1150

http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/bik/823723784.html

It has Campagnolo parts, so how can it not be worth $1150?

Flimflam 09-02-08 11:44 AM

Ouch Pyze, that's just NOT a pretty image in any form... Has your new saddle arrived to replace?

Re: Brooks, I screwed up and missed the sale at Nashbar, anyone know of a cheap deal for them? Best I've found is $79.99 and I said I'd get one for my buddy before I ended up gaining another year and losing my sobriety on Sunday in the process. Birthday booze 1 - 0 Bargain Brooks FTL :(

somnambulant 09-02-08 12:00 PM

Another great summation of SSWCs from HTATBL: http://www.howtoavoidthebummerlife.c..._the_very.html

My buddy Chris even made the rad-call rockin' his Swobo w/ Coaster brake:

It cost me about half of that to build my similarly equipped Guerciotti! I ended up putting more into it when I put some fancier stuff on it like a carbon seatpost and whatnot, but originally it was basically a Victory group which that looks like. Really nice bike but that price is TOO much. Even with my "fancy" upgrades the bike still was well under that.

iherald 09-02-08 03:51 PM

Anytime you're asking for over a thousand dollars for a bike on CL, in my opinion you need some nice photos of the parts on the bike. It's also nice when you write the size of the bike... :)

jeremywhitehorn 09-02-08 04:26 PM

someone scoop up this wheelset; it must be for a funny bike. how else do you explain the 24" front wheel?

duppy.conqueror 09-02-08 04:39 PM
