If anybody wants to work as a 'traveling course marshal' for the Tour de Georgia, drop me a line ASAP and I'll put you in touch with the proper people. It's from April 16-22, you'll have to arrive a day early, and you'll probably want to leave the day after (ie. wrap-up party!), and all your expenses are covered (hotels, food, transportation, Tour clothes) except for airfare. I was supposed to go, but I can't afford the plane ticket, so if anybody wants my place, let me know. It's definately a ton of fun, and the coolest way to see a pro bike race.

There were some beautiful and ridiculously cheap large road bikes on CL this past weekend. Having too many bikes is annoying...

I'm currently debating whether I should tour on my SS eggbeaters, my look keos or some new pedals.
I will need new shoes regardless as my mountain commuting shoes are pretty much shot, and my sidis would be very impractical for anything off the bike. Ideally I'd like some three strap mountain style recessed cleat shoes that are compatible with look cleats, but there only seems to be one of those available (Lake CX-120 or 125). They are only available online afaik so sizing would be a serious issue. I could buy regular mountain shoes and use my eggbeaters but I'm not sure how much I'd trust them for 1000's of kilometers as they are a bit squirmy and have been destroying my current shoes. Cam, can you provide some insight into clipless sandals and what sort of sock/bootie combinations you use? walkability? The shimano sandals look pretty nice and are reccomended over in the touring forum. |
crazy idea: bring some flipflops and use the sidis?
|
I've thought about that but my sidis are a smidge small (d'oh) and I plan to hop on and off the bike fairly often so I'd like *some* walking ability without needing to change shoes all the time.

Did anyone lose a blue Planet Bike led light at the safety last week? If so I have it.
