I actually ran into martino who told me about the CBC radio thing before I came home an hour ago - I would go, but I don't think i'd be the best person.
I nominate cavit8.

No can dooeey, thanks though.

I was contacted as well at a bike shop, but I only knew Charlie here on the internet and at bike shops, we never rode together socially, only by chance on Harbord once in a while & a mass or two. He did take time to help me with some questions I had about the way things work here in Canada, thanks to his study of transportation and urban planning.
All I can add about Sue & CBC is that she indicated that it would be aired immediately, hence the strict timing, perhaps live, as I'm fairly certain much of the show is, the host is live. We listen occasionally in the workshop, it's a good program. That's good advice, keep it human, not heated even though it's a raw subject. It'll be good for people outside of cycling bubbles to know who Charlie was. I just can't believe that someone who was so obviously already part of the solution and going to be a greater part of it in the future could be lost. |
yeah, I'm totally fine with speaking on air.. I just feel like there must be someone out there who knew him better than I. But, maybe that's just me being a ****.

yes! toronto fixed massive repped at the funeral...nice one guys!
Wes good luck with the interview. HOP was there to cheer us up along with the guiness! one. |
it was great seeing everyone make it out to the funeral. not a fun thing to do but it had to be done. Charlie would have been proud to see us all there. just listening to people talk about him made me think he was a guy on track to greatness.

Wes good luck with the interview. HOP was there to cheer us up along with the guiness! one. Agreed, I counted 20+ of us which was great to see. There were some faces there I recognized and some that came out of the woodwork (looking at you, sr20), so the support was likely really appreciated. Sara and I will be at the ride this Friday. |
Wes, can you add an event in the I Bike Toronto group? I appear to be too dumb to pull that off (stupid Facebook).
|
is the interview tomorrow on cbc 1 or 2?
|
From the other thread:
Stream CBC 91.1 on 08/15 around 12:30pm. Some of Charlie's friends will be talking about him and the memorial ride on Friday. http://www.cbc.ca/toronto/audio/index.html#listen |

Maybe if those with stories and details msg'd you - you could add them to your own, and give the fullest picture possible? On another (or maybe not) note. I spent tonight re-reading Charlies blog. In it he mentions trevelling with a couple - and their Blog. Well I decided to read it to see what they where saying about Charlie. The other side of the coin - as it were. It was all good as you would imagine. Below are the links - they also have pictures of him... Christian Dan and Caedmon The 'Table of Contents' of their journey: http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/seattletoSF Below are links to various entries of their journey that mention Charlie: http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p..._id=55003&v=7P http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p..._id=55112&v=6V http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p..._id=55273&v=66 http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p..._id=55275&v=6K http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p..._id=55532&v=5k http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p..._id=55533&v=5e http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p..._id=55534&v=5L http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p..._id=55881&v=41 http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p..._id=56012&v=3d http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p..._id=56282&v=2s http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/p...e_id=60011&v=B Also - they took this rad pic: |
posted on the other thread...the *CBC.CA/TORONTO* radio station is 99.1...not 91.1 (which is CJRT).
|
OFFS, thanks for catching that.
|
If anyone has any Charlie-centric places we could visit while we ride on Friday, feel free to suggest them.
edit: strange.. my top 3 bands last week I listened to 34, 24 and 14 times each. If I listened to #4 4 times, I'm going to be creeped out. edit2: nope.. turns out there was a 3-way tie for 3rd, and then a 2-way tie for the next place.. http://www.last.fm/user/somnambulant/ edit3: interesting, huh?! :P |
btw. the interview on cbc radio is not going to be run live. We're taping today, and it will likely air tomorrow.
|
Hmm...I dont want to read the whole thing...but does anyone know of any work shops...or does anyone have any extra parts to convert a frame with vertical dropouts to a single speed?
Any shops with used parts would be good too...If someone wants to help me build it, im a 17yr old thats eager to learn the trade and interested in mechanics...Thanks |

Thanks for representing at the funeral. You all have great courage. I look forward to hearing the interview on 99.1. I listen to the show all the time (especially love the lack of sheliagh this summer). I can't see it being anything other than a celebration of Charlie's life and promo for cycling. See you on Fri. -Mark

The easiest means of conversion is to use a chain tensioner, something you'll likely end up buying unless someone has a spare. Old derailleurs can be used but add a lot more friction and aren't optimal. I'm trying to do it with a half link and various ring combinations without much luck as yet. For tool access etc., bikepirates is an option http://www.bikepirates.com/ or CBN's toolworks http://communitybicyclenetwork.org/?...ec51e77471d444 I know a couple of guys who volunteer at Bike Pirates from time to time who would know how to do a conversion. |
me on cbc radio = blah blah blah. I can't even remember what I said. I can only remember things that I wanted to say, but didn't. hehehe.
|
i'm sure you did great...
|
|
oh dear
|
Wes you did fine. I'm glad you got phoned. It was the least I can do with having to miss the service and all.
<puts his little black book away and pedals off> |
ahhhhhhh ... a little mystery solved?
|
Actually, Martin (Reis, of Bike Lane Diary) also mentioned my name to Sue, apparently. He was the other guest for the taping, which was nice.
|
 my but how things travel fast these days.

"Coming up on Thursday, August 16: On Friday, cyclists in Toronto will be gathering to remember 23-year-old Charlie Prinsep. He was riding from Vancouver to Toronto when he was struck and killed by a car. Kevin Sylvester speaks to a few of Charlie's friends, who say he was one of the sweetest people they know." |
I spent my lunch up at Kinko's printing flyers for the memorial - on recycled stock Charlie ;) - and papered the immediate vicinity. Anyone I saw on a bicycle or carrying a helmet. Then I papered MEC and spoke to the crew in the cycling dept who were all fired up to come. On the way out I ran into a bunch of the TBN folk and gave them a stack as they were meeting tonight (?) and said they'd want to put it on their site as well. I also got OCAD and possibly an on-air mention on MuchMusic this afternoon during video flow. Oh, and a couple of VJs may come out as well. To the ride, not sexual-orientation wise. :D
It's gonna be electric. |
ps. - has anyone notified the family about the CBC gig? I'm sure they'd love to know.
Great job btw Wes. I'm a big fan of that show and look forward to hearing. Oh and my apologies for pointing the Star reporter your way at the funeral as well. You seemed a fitting candidate for the job and it would appear I was right :) It was great seeing everyone get together the other day - albeit for suck reason. Some new faces to names which is always nice. Sorry, longest ps EVAR! |
