Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hutchinson Sector 28 Defects?

I put a pair of Hutchinson Sector 28 tubeless tires on my workaday wheels for the Bianchi Infinito CV I bought in January, and had been having problems with losing most of the air in less than a day. One of them was especially bad. At first, I thought I had valve or rim tape problems, but finally, a dunk in water showed that there were multiple locations where the tiniest stream of bubbles was coming out of the sidewalls. I took them, mounted, to my LBS where they thought at first I didn't have enough sealant. I suggested that they indeed did have enough, and that a tubeless tire shouldn't have an air-permeable sidewall anyway, but let try a few things to keep them happy. Adding lots of sealant didn't change anything, so they finally agreed the tires must be defective. They've ordered me some Schwalbes to try, and will be contacting their Hutchinson rep about the Sectors.

I was just curious if anyone else has had a problem like this with these or other road tubeless tires.

I read several similar complaints about Hutchinson when I was choosing tires. You're definitely not alone. I've had good experience with the Schwalbe One and Hans Dampf.

Mine have been going strong, no issues at all.

I've got three pairs across four bikes, and one of the bikes is on it's second pair (the first ones were retired after almost 3000 miles). No issues with any on Bontrager and Shimano tubeless wheels.

You can probably find anecdotal defect related information on any tire out there across the forums.
