There is not a single carbon clincher that I am currently aware of that can stop as well as an aluminum clincher in rain conditions or on a mountain descent. And I have been around bikes for close to thirty years.

Shimano Carbon/AL composite wheels have no braking disadvantage when wet, or otherwise. -Bandera |

I don't ride mountain descents so I can't comment on that. Pad technology has come a long way as has already been pointed out and ignored.

Sure, but those have aluminum braking surface. I have the Dura-Ace C50 clinchers, and I know there is no disadvantage to those on mountain descents and in inclement weather.
I use my brakes as sparingly as possible but require deft delicate modulation or Whoah-Nelly deceleration as required in all conditions. Folk need to do a full Requirements Review when purchasing wheels that are to be ridden outdoors. -Bandera |
