Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Time to think of a reason to take off the rear wheel? Better yet just cut the silly thing off.

Having been hit by a car, I can respect the relector, but the dork disk is treason.

What exactly is the point of the frisbee on my rear wheel anyway? why wouldn't i want it on there?

so i've been thinking a lot about bottle cages recently. my bike is primarily gold and red, with a touch of yellow. i have black bottle cages but wouldn't mind checking out some fly yellow ones. The saddle, stem, bars, seatpost, etc are all black and i think a little bright color would look real cool.

i just remembered i need to remove those reflectors from my wheels! AH!

For us non-aesthetic minded folks, why is the "dork-disc" bad? And if, by chance, I wanted to join the legions of aestheticites, how would I take it off?

It's not about the bike!

You need to start thinking of green socks now...

DON'T get silver bottles --- if you do that, they'll totally overshadow the silver cages. Get black bottles instead, that way they'll contrast the silver of the cages and the cages will look that much better. Also, the black bottles will look good w/ the black seat, tires and handlebar tape.

Second the pruning shears, (don't tell my wife either), and make sure you don't cut any spokes...you kinda need those.

A lot of people take it off because of aesthetics...it is there to stop your chain from comitting harrycarey into your spokes. But reason says if your derailleur is that out of whack, then you deserve to have the chain jump in your spokes.
In MTB, the idea was to remove it before it removed itself (broke) and ended up hula-hooping your hub during a ride (not good). From a roadbike standpoint, pure aesthetics, plus weightweenie watch! Gotta count those grams...

Well I am certainly no weight weenie. I would be much better off getting 15lbs off of my fat butt then worrying about a few grams off of the bike.

The only thing I have in common with weenies is that I have probably eaten way too many of them (with mustard and onions, of course).

On my roadbike, the dork-disc is so small and already overshadowed by my poseur 12-27 that you can't even see it. As you can see, the protector is probably meant for a 23T large cog cassette. It barely reaches the edges of my 24T and my 27T overshadows it by a large margin. As such it's really useless but then again you can't see it. Also, it doesn't look as bad as other spoke protectors I've seen and is pretty securely attached (slid onto the freehub body... making it harder to remove) thus I just leave it on. Most people never even see it.

P.S. Yes... I know I need to wash my bike.

Don't use the wife's shears on that one... that looks like a new pair of shears would be being purchased.
You're right though about the 27 dwarfing it and making it moot, therefore take it off.

It's more of a hassle to take it off than to leave it on. I neglected to take it off during the past few chances when I replaced the cassette. Honestly I just forgot. Perhaps I'll remember come time for the next cassette change.

I wear blue on the outside
Cause blue is how I feel on the inside

What are you waiting for? Get those pedals!

My bike is blue, and most of my clothing blue and black. I have to say, I feel properly posed when riding Trinity in full blue kit.

After several months of riding it, the wife finally got me to buy a red jersey. Mainly cuz it was on sale.
