From your phone, MP3 player, etc...one ear, both ears? I've seen cyclist all over the map with this. Some say they can have ear buds in and still hear ambient sound, others find the thought of it insane. Where do you personally fall on the subject.

I tried earbuds a time or two, and for me there was increased wind noise; therefore, I don't listen to music on my rides. Also, I feel that music would be a distraction.

I have not. At the same time I've entertained trying the Aftershokz "bone induction" type of headphones that transmit thru your jawbones and don't actually go in your ear. However, I still think there's probably some degree of distraction which ain't good.

Not at all I want to hear what is happening around me. Nothing to distract the senses because too much can happen on a bike.

Yes! Everytime, even commuting. I use this: UE BOOM: 360° Sound Wireless Speaker | Ultimate Ears it fits in the water bottle cage, doesnt weight much and sounds great. Oh, and it doesnt interfere with the sounds of my surrounding, so yes, it is safe!

I've thought about something like this...but I gotta be honest...I roll my eyes when I see (hear) a guy riding a motorcycle with his music so loud everyone in a three street radius can hear him, lol

Recently I started listening to music in one ear (the right one), with the volume low enough I can hear ambient noise in either ear. I actually find it helps me focus on the riding. Without the music, I find myself focusing on work, or other projects, that tend to distract me more from my surroundings than listening to music.

When I first started riding my road bike I did like to put in my ear buds and jam out while riding but have found that its more important to listen to what's going on around and behind me instead for safety's sake.

This speaker goes loud but not that loud.... And the idea is to listen at a normal level so you can hear your surrounding, also, why would I care about rolling eyes? Actually, in most rides I get thumbs up

oh, I know...that's just me being silly. Some of those guys have the radio SO loud, though.

I use earbuds on my iphone 5s and still hear traffic, wind, and other creations making noise.

Only on solo TT training, along desolate stretches.

I do have an old earbud that I sometimes place in my left ear, to dampen the traffic noise, along busy streets. Loosely placed and with no sound, it doesn't muffle what I need to hear.

LOL I have a hard enough time hearing ANYTHING. My GF usually lets me know what's going on when we ride together. Without her I'm pretty much visual. Really have to pay attention. Interesting topic how much attention do you think is lost listening to music 10%, 50%**********

I listen to earbuds (volume low) on solo rides.

No! I would love to hear music as I ride but it takes away auditory safety cues like cars and trucks coming up from behind. Also, others may not appreciate my taste in music and my music might take away from their ride.

Oh great, this topic again...I give it two days before this is a 10 page posts of people arguing back and forth over why you shouldn't and why others don't care what they think.

For the record, I ride with buds in both ears and have no issues dealing with the world around me.

I watch music videos on my iPad handlebar mount.

I've noticed this here more than most message boards I've visited, but why not just ignore the thread if it's something you think is repetitive or not worth replying to. Honestly not trying to be argumentative, just a question.

I don't listen to music; I create it. I sing a lot while riding and don't want any distracting noise while I'm out on the road.
