Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't think I've ever had a "bottom bracket" creak that had anything to do with the bottom bracket.

What I miss? Anything Earth shattering?

I managed to destroy a new tire already this Spring, gutted it like a fish. Had zero sealant left here at the house...so I had to beg & borrow. ...and I was too neat with my rim-taping, 18mm isn't wide enough for an 18mm internal width rim. When I slapped the new tire on the bead was pushing the tape and air was escaping into the rim and exiting at the valve stem. Ordered new tape, more sealant...re-taped with 24mm, wrapped it triple instead of double, Orange Seal is very light tape...all is good, thank gawd for Amazon Prime...Now, I gotta make up for lost miles from this week...the family can eat hot dogs for the 4th. I'll be rolling amok.

Heathpack rode 207 miles in one day.

Mr. Transistor tried to cut his arm off with a chainsaw.

Billy didn't ban anyone.

datals admitted to making patients sit in the waiting room drugged up on valium while he posted on the interwebz.

I ran over more chip and seal.

rjones is promoting his wife's accomplishment by sending out CD's to a select group.

VeloVol is MIA

I think that's it.

Just to clarify:

Heathpack actually rode 209 miles in one day, the 207 was a typo.

Mrs RJones had a kickstarter-type thing to fund her new music project. If you contributed RJones dumped a bucket of ice water over his head and posted a YouTube video of the deed here in Addiction. This went down when you were on hiatus, so you missed it.

Also, the story I heard was that Transistor got his arm chewed up by a bear. It jumped out of the cornfields and grabbed him while he was riding the tandem with Mrs Transistor. She reached down and plucked a spoke from the moving bicycle wheel and poked that bear right in its left eye. The bear retreated, howling in pain, and they rode on at 30 mph, didn't miss a single pedal stroke. Rode right into the ER, and they never even got off the bike. The doc just stitched him up and then they rode home 12 miles in a hailstorm.

Wife took an extended weekend for the holiday; today we went to the conservatory/zoo/kiddie ride park (one-stop shop here in town). Here's a water lily from one of the newly opened areas of the conservatory -

Whatever it takes.

I missed the extra two miles. I was trying to provide a general synopsis of what Mr. Dregs missed.

A much better description of the actual events than what I provided. I 'm sorry that I did not include the part about Mr. Transistor in the tree cutting firewood with a chainsaw when he lost his balance because the bear was attacking the base of the tree. He fell out of the tree onto the tandem. He and Mrs. Transistor raced away from the bear in the Illinois cornfields and Heathpacks story finishes from here.

...if it's a press fit outboard bearing, like BB30, the makers recommend removal and reinstallation using a low strength bearing seating compound like this. But if you just need an excuse for a new bike, pardon my intrusion into the process. Happy fourth.

Remember that I ride in the flatlands. The difference between 207 and 209 miles is 10 feet vertically.

Shut up. I went backwards up Portero Rd. 17% grade dude. You do that then keep riding another 150 miles.

Plus we had wind. That is not reflected in the elevation profile.

It was a respectable ride.

Wind?

Wind...pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft

You have not seen wind until you have been in Oklahoma where the wind comes sweeping across the plains.

17% = time to switchback! I'm having a very hard time finding anyone who wants to go 100, let alone 100+. I'm doing a solo century very soon.

I don't think I have a mechanical problem with my bike. In fact, I think my bike is working quite well. Will a big hammer help me get a new bike?

...absolutely, but it works better if you don't have to pay for the bike yourself. Try the flow chart. Maybe you don't have a bike exactly like the one you want one yet.
