Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looking for some set-up advice

Hi all, I just got started in the sport of road cycling( I just put in my first 100 mi.) I currently ride an '04 Fuji League. i love the bike and for the most part but i find that i feel crunched up on it when i'm riding. It has a 110 mm. stem and i was wondering if a longer stem might help the problem or if there was another manner of adjustment that may help.

Thanks for any help

It would be best to have someone with some experience to take a look at your form on the bike. If you truly are crunched...a longer stem is probably what you need. The other adjustment you can make is moving the seat back...but that affects other areas as well. You should ideally adjust the seat position first and make sure it is correct and confortable based on the contact point with the pedals.

What he said. ...And if you are too crunched up,you may have too small a frame.

I'm about 5'11" and the bike has a 58 cm top tube length.

Can you post a photo of you on your bike, from the side, with your hands on the hoods? That might help.

A 58 cm top tube for a 5'11" body sounds about right.
