Or Charles Barkley; by the time the race is half over, he'd be back in the team bus stealing everybody's Clif bars and asking the cook for extra helpings of mac n cheese.

And I am sure I could be a Nobel contender if I just wanted to and had a few more books on my shelf.

Given the superior athletics and co-ordination required to be a basketball player I'm sure Charles could be a TDF contender if he wanted. It didn't take him long to excel at golf after retiring from basketball.

Respectfully, you haven't added any light to anything in dispute over the last 12 pages. Nobody overlooks the training and dedication involved to maintain oneself as a top professional. (Even golfers have nutritionists. Tiger Woods was known to have a incredible fitness and strength. [One wonders about John Daly though...]).
The point is that unless you are a select few gifted by the grace of god, no amount of money, training, or dedication will put you on equal footing to professionals in performance. In fact, if that was true, you'd see millionaires and heirs disproportionately represented in the athletic ranks. Pretty much every reasonable person here has said the same thing: To reach the top you need great genetics AND a lot of hard (and smart) work. |

Aero & big peloton = pro |
My apologies, I only read the first and last pages and shot from the hip about what it takes to get to the top, pre coffee.

You're all wasting so much of your life right now. I'm just glad I haven't read this whole thread.
There will be a quiz.

This silliness is still going on?
Who knew so many amateurs had first hand knowledge of exactly what training is needed to be a pro and were experts in the field of human genetic variation at the same time... :thumb: |

Yep :)
The study of human genetic variation is of course based mainly upon common sense. As are the mostly guarded training regimens of elite athletes... :thumb: |

Important question- Does Pearl Izumi make any NOT BIBS big enough for LeBron? Would his treetrunk legs get adequate compression if the NOT BIBS are under $40? I don't think so, therefore he'd make a terrible competitive cyclist. QED.

As to Charles Barkley's golf game, there are 8th grade junior high school girls throughout the country that can beat Barkley at golf from the back tees probably giving him 5 strokes a side. All said as a person, I like Sir Charles for his candor and of course a guy as awful at golf has to eat some serious humble pie being such a good basketball player. |
