Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Recently, I have maintained an average speed of 28-30 km/h in 2 hours in a 60KM route on a 34-13 gears. From tomorrow, I will be training on heavy gears to help increase my strength when riding uphill.

solo 21.4 mile flat loop 22mph avg when I make most of the lights.
60+ mile group ride avg 1800ft climbing avg 20+mph
54 miles at 15mph with 5600 feet of climbing..

I do an annual 150 mile supported ride, maybe 25% of the time is in a group..
2004 - 155miles at 16mph (crashed, but finished)
2005 - 149 miles at 18.5mph
2006 - 145 miles at 19.6mph
2007 - 102.5 miles at 20mph rode

When I averaged 16 I thought i was really fast... now I average above 20 quite often and I know I am really slow...
it all depends on the terrain, group or solo and level of riders with you..

KP you are too humble.

Reading this thread confirms what I know - I am slow.
