The pin that holds the retaining clip on my Shimano R550SPD-SL pedal has somehow come out of its socket, well, not completely. But the result is that it doesn't clip the cleat properly, and it does so very, very loosely. I can squeeze it back into place with pliers, but invariably it comes out again.


This isn't my pic, just one I found with the same issue. You can see the pin coming out. On my 105's this pin is replaced by a threaded bolt, which is a much better solution.

Any ideas on how to keep that pin from coming out?

superglue? jbweld?

pop some on the bolt and squeeze it back in

Same pedal, same problem. Upgraded to new 105. I may send them back to Nashbar, the are only six months old, and see if they will replace them. I'll keep them as an emergency replacement.

DP 420 is used to bond CF tubes before carbon layup, but it's a little pricey to fix a cheap pedal

Same happened to mine. A drop of plastic compatible Loctite fixed it. It's more like super glue than blue or red Loctite.

All right, thanks guys. I will try a drop of something, whatever I can find that's cheap enough to be worth it, and see if it will work.

I do have the option of returning it, but it's in the UK, and shipping is already more than half of what I actually paid for them 18 months ago, so not really worth it at this point.

Plus, I was thinking of switching to SPD pedals anyway as this is my non-studded commuter road bike.
