Wouldn't matter if the intention is to hold them until maturity, but if you are looking to unload low interest bonds in a high interest marketplace you'll have to sell them at a discount.

Be very careful investing in bond funds in a rising interest rate environment. Think of a bond fund as a bond that never matures. In a rising interest rate market it can be difficult for bond fund managers to retain the fund value and income from interest.

Just a wild ass bike forum's investment guess, but I suspect that the stock market is in for a 20-30% devaluation correction over the next 6 months - year, and that bonds will see a valuation change of much less than that. Again, just a wag on my part, based in part on an expectation that you will see a baby boomer move to dump stocks and get to bonds too quickly from fear of catastrophic loss.

I also read palms, do a fair Bill the Cat impression, and can bowl in three digits.

You're doomed.

In the end of Fargo, season 2, someone gets a job, and is told that there are 401(k) benefits. The season was set in 1979, and I thought I had caught a blatant anachronism. But Mr. Google says that they were written into the tax code in '78. Like the Star Wars of investments.

Also in Fargo, season 2, the Corvair is painfully similar to my Dad's, but I can't tell exact year. Color match, interior and exterior, is spot on though.

Why would you do that?

When I hear someone say they have a 401(k) I never assume they actually have a 401(k) since most people don't know the difference between a 401(k), IRA, SIMPLE, SEP, etc...

RPK79 12-18-15 01:51 PM

Mods need to put this blatant liar out of commission. http://www.bikeforums.net/general-cy...l#post18399110

Lazy trolls this week. :(

We're getting missed by a big snow storm this weekend. :(

At your age be bold and go 100% in equities, preferably growth mutual funds. Don't keep more than 10% of your total savings from all sources in your company's stock. Maximize your contribution to the plan at least up to the point where you get the maximum match by the company, more if that is feasible. Don't get flustered in a downturn. Let it ride.

Snowing here right now, but it's that light stuff that doesn't really accumulate.

Yes, I was introduced to them early in '81.

Squalls. We're supposed to get squalls.

RollCNY 12-18-15 02:03 PM

Squalls sounds nautical. Reminds me of my days on a corn schooner, plying the amber waves of grain.

Doug28450 12-18-15 02:39 PM

No snow here. We are supposed to have 48 degrees on Sunday.

RPK79 12-18-15 02:41 PM

We're back to blue skies and sun! Too bad it's 19 degrees with a 13 MPH wind.

WalksOn2Wheels 12-18-15 02:41 PM

So posting in the "dumbest thing you've done" thread reminded me that I finally checked in on Strava again and I've depressingly only managed 1400+ miles this year. This year has SUCKED for bike riding for me. And on top of it all, I'm seriously trying to plan for this 500k between Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, so I glance at the weather and right now there is rain in the forecast for the 25-28. :bang:

RPK79 12-18-15 02:47 PM

I was hoping to hit 3k this year, but only did 2,300. Although that's 400 more miles than the year before which was 400 more than the year before that so I am trending upward at least.

rjones28 12-18-15 02:49 PM

I'm approaching 2k miles for the year which is not bad for me lately.
