Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I bought a truing stand two Black Fridays ago and just used it for the first time last month. Luckily, I don't have many issues with wheels but my mtb wheels were getting pretty wobbly. I might do the bikes direct wheels on my beater next.

How's this:

I weigh 140 pounds and keep breaking spokes on my BikesDirect rear wheel. Am I too fat?

Nice. what bag you got? I've been considering a gastank bag for my cam. Sometimes pack cam in the front-of-bars bag, but seems like it's bouncier than a tank bag, so not as nice for cam.

I did a cockpit shot the other day, rollin' the Terminator, taking pics with the phone. I was stopped, though...

It's this one and they also make a smaller one. The bigger one even has a movable/removable divider for the tapered down section. So if I took off my bulk wrist strap, I could probably still fit a small snack or something.

i tried the wrist strap in my rando bag but found it more fussy as id have to get my hand in the strap then get the camera out.
with the long strap its kinda just one motion
I don't think I could ever ride comfortably knowing I had a 700 dollar camera on my back. At least if I do something really dumb, it's in a padded case. I could see how the strap method would be great for something like a real casual pace short ride, though.

Riding a $4,000-$8,000 bike, with a few hundred bucks worth of electronic gear hanging off the front of the bike, and a few hundred worth of kit on. Yeah. That camera is a worry.

Pack the thing, and enjoy the ride.

Maybe we can combine threads. You could even post it for me. "My friend has this problem...."

Is building a wheel really complicated or is it just time consuming? Maybe I should start a thread...

I've built more than a few wheels having worked at the shop, but the very first one I built was my personal wheel. A Mavic Open Pro onto a 105 rear hub. Right after building it, I rode it down the worst road I knew and tried to destroy it. It was perfect. That was maybe 4 or 5 years ago now. It basically never needed truing. I just shipped it with the Bianchi.

I built all of my racing and training wheels back in the '80s but they were all 32° or 36° tubular and box rims. I haven't done it since. Today's wheels are generally pretty decent.

Based on your avatar photo you got a lot of practice working on wheels.

That's where we differ. Making stupid-ass threads isn't my goal here.

That experiment didn't work out, some changes are in order.

Well, back in my day... And only people whose baby pictures are in black and white are allowed to say that.
